Round 30 of La Liga kicked off with the Friday night opener between Madrid Club Getafe & Eibar. The final result 1 - 1 after Eibar player Borja managed a 86th min equalizer with a fabulous back-heel. Earlier Getafe went ahead with a 6th min goal from Velazquez.
The surprise result of the Round was the Real Sporting de Gijon 2 - 1 win over Atletico Madrid. The loss by Atletico gives FC Barcelona practically the "keys" to the Liga title after losing 3 vital Liga points.
Atletico Madrid paid for tiredness due to their mid-week Champions League win against PSV Eindhoven that went into extra-time & penalties, while Coach Simeone underrated today´s match. It is almost sacrilege to criticize Caoch Simeone these days, but he left home & on the bench players like JuanFran, Gabi (later put on) & Augusto to rest & then decided to "shut the match" when the result was 1-1. This defensive posture (took off Griezmann) allowed Gijon to take the initiative & they were rewarded in the end with the winner. The other bad news for Atletico Madrid was the injury of defender Gimenez which leaves the defence in a dilemma for future games. Just to remind you that Godin is also injured & will be out for some weeks.
The first goal came from an excellent executed free kick from Griezmann in the 28th min. From here onwards Gijon grinded their way back into the match with the equilizer through Sarabia in the 78th min & the eventual winner through Carlos in the 88th min.
For Gijon its a confidence boosting result & three vital points as they are struggling in the bottom part of the Liga ladder, for Atletico its almost "goodbye" to the Liga title & a possible lesson to learn from for the future.
Top match between two teams struggling on the Liga ladder Granada & Madrid Club Rayo Vallecano which finished in a 2 - 2 draw. Granada forward El Arabi put his team ahead twice, in the 10th & 53rd min. While Rayo equalized through Pablo Hernandez in the 46th min & later through Ze Castro in the 87th min.
Another points adding result by Las Palmas with a 1 - 0 win over Real Sociedad away from home. The "streak" of positive results puts Las Palmas out of relegation danger for the moment. The winner came from a free kick by Willian Jose in the 38th min. Las Palmas also missed a penalty.
Deportivo A Coruña defeated last placed on the Liga ladder Levante 2 - 1. The goals for Depor came through Luis Alberto in the 42nd min & Mariño in the 84th min. While the only goal for Levante came from Rossi in the 49th min.
Real Betis 0 - Malaga FC 1 (Camacho 81st min)
