SPANISH CUP 2º LEG Q/FINAL 2008 THURSDAY GAMES

RACING DE SANTANDER & FC BARCELONA join Valencia CF
& Getafe in the semi finals of the SPANISH CUP after the last two

matches of the 2º leg Q/Finals were played tonight.

ATHLETIC DE BILBAO drew 3-3 at home against RACING, but
lost the Q/final because Racing came into the game with a 2 goal
advantage from the 1º leg.
The goal scorers for Athletic were AMOREBIETA (18th min),
MUÑOZ (24th min) & SUSAETA ( 55th min).
For Racing the scorers were DRUSCHER ( 53thmin), TCHITE (72th)
& SERRANO (91stmin).
As one can see the 1º half was all Bilbao & the 2º half all Racing, the
end
result, Racing make history & go into the semis.

The 1º leg was a 0-0 draw at VILLAREAL, the 2º leg finished in a 1-0
victory
for FC BARCELONA with the only goal coming from
Frenchmen THIERRY HENRY with a header in the 40th min.
It was a tough affair with Villareal defender Cygan being sent off with a
red card & Villareal playing with 10 men since the 44th min.
Messi missed a penalty late in the 2º half , with Henry not being given his

2º goal due to off-side. End result, Barça through to semis.

won over the "new" Wembley Stadium in London.

The last time that the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium hosted a

Missed yesterdays SPANISH CUP 2º leg Q/Final games between
At.Madrid & Valencia, plus Mallorca &
Getafe?
Wish to see the goals & highlights?

SPANISH CUP 2º LEG Q/FINAL 2008 WEDNESDAY GAMES

Two games played tonight in the 2º leg of the SPANISH CUP
Q/FINALS that have given the following results, scorers & images.

VALENCIA CF took its one goal advantage to ATLETICO DE
MADRID,
& it was the key the opened the door for them to qualify
for the semi-
finals. The presence of the Argentine Football leyend
MARADONA (above) to
see the game & cheer on Atletico was not
enough, although Atletico
won 3-2. However, the two away goals
count for double & here is the explaination, as history repeats itself
for Atletico & puts a question mark on their future.

It was a fabulous game & the nerves were on edge the 90 mins, as
Atletico fans prayed for the miracle, but only saw the hand of some
bad luck & a twisted destiny.
Atletico started well with an own goal by Valencia player MIGUEL,
that was then added on to by a 2º goal by AGUERO in the 19th min.
But, then in the 28th min Atletico defender CLEBER SANTANA put
in an own goal for Valencia, that MATA added to in the 35th min to
equalize for Valencia.
It was gloom for Atletico when VALERA headed in the 3rd for Atletico
in the 59th min to open the gates of a miracle. But the final whistle blew
& Valencia, although they lost, went through into the semis & calmed
their own personal nightmare.
Its Atletico´s 4th straight loss & they now show signs of "crisis". How
football
changes things!

Speaking of miracles, MALLORCA looked like qualifying for the
semi finals after IBAGAZA in the 7th min & ARANGO in the 55th
put them 2º goals up against GETAFE, who only had the 1º goal
advantage from the 1st leg.
Then, when Mallorca were practically celebrating, the sky opened
& the miracle happened when GRANERO scored from a free kick in
the 81st min to give Getafe a valuable away goal worth double &
a berth into the Spanish Cup semis. Spectacular stuff!

Tomorrow the final 2º games will be played of the Spanish Cup
with:
At.Bilbao - Racing
FC Barcelona - Villareal

Two top games in which you can surf into SFS & see the results,
scorers & images.

That offer is 3M€ short of his contract release clause, & to add a hurdle
Real Madrid has an agreement with Racing that Real has 1º option in any

RCD ESPANYOL: EWERTHON TO FILL TAMUDO GAP

Brazilian forward EWERTHON (below) is back & going to RDC
ESPANYOL until the end of this season on loan from German side
STUTTGART, with REAL ZARAGOZA´s permission. Why? The

player still "belongs" to Zaragoza who loaned him to Stuttgart , &
now returns to Spanish Football with Espanyol.

The player is called upon to fill the huge gap left by the injuried

Espanyol Captain & goalscorer Raul Tamudo who is out for
2 months. The Brazilian has talent, goal & Spanish Football
experience as proved last season while at Zaragoza.

FC BARCELONA NEWS 2008: RONALDINHO FIT AGAIN AND READY TO GO!

Great news for FC BARCELONA after letting slip 2ºpoints this
weekend & allowing the "enemy" - Real Madrid - to escape ahead
on the classification
table with 9ºpoints lead.
Brazilian "crack" RONALDINHO was given today the OK by the
medical team to get back on the turf & do his thing: play football.

Ronaldinho has missed the last 8 games for Barça & could make his
return next Thursday in the 2º leg of the Q/Final match of the Spanish
Cup against Villareal. The Brazilian has been training hard & "looking
after himself" to get back in top form & give the fans some joys & hopes.

*SFS thanks "Mundo Deportivo" for the Barça header

FC BARCELONA NEWS & HUMOUR 2008

According to "Sport" & English dialy "Mail On Sunday", CHELSEA,
TOTTENHAM & NEWCASTLE are interested in the services of 30
year old Portugues International & FC BARCELONA midfielder
DECO, after the player announced that he may leave Barça at the
end of the season.

Lastly, in "Mundo Deportivo´s" cartoon section, "Pelotazos" by Kap, they
focus on Barça´s 1-1 draw yesterday that "gave" their arch rivals Real
Madrid two more valuable points, which increases that gap to 9ºpoints in the

Championship race. It´s self explained.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA - ROUND 21 /2008 SUNDAY GAMES RESULTS

Surprises, controversy & plenty of goals in Round 21 of "La Liga"
that added more spice to the Spanish 1ºst Division. Here are the

results, scorers & images of todays games.

Firstly, REAL MURCIA lost in a disputed game against LEVANTE,

with the latter winning 2-3 in the last minute with a goal that was
off-side.
Murcia started well with a goal by IVAN ALONSO in the 45th min,
but Levante pulled back with 2ºgoals in the 72nd & 81st via ALVARO
& RIGA. It looked like Murcia would win after it got ahead in the
88th with an
own goal by KUJOVIC (own goal), but LEON got
the winner in the last moment for Levante while off-side. Controversy!

Third straight loss to ATLETICO DE MADRID ( the other was
the Cup match mid-week) away to MALLORCA with the 0-1

scoreline. The goal come via ARANGO in the 20th min to give
Mallorca the points & put the long faces on the Atletico players.
Atletico are not taking their chances, history is repeating itself, &
once again Reyes was again sent off with a Red Card leaving
his
side with 10 men.

The other Madrid side GETAFE won 1- 3 away against
RECREATIVO with goals from ALBIN ( pictured above),
GRANERO & MANU DEL MORAL. The consolation goal

for Recreativo came from CAMUÑAS which was a real cracker.

ESPANYOL keep losing & are slipping from the higher places on
the ladder, they are feeling the effects of not having striker Tamudo
who is injuried & may soon shut the loan of Brazilian Ewerthon from
Stuttugart to help solve the problem.
REAL BETIS won 1-2 with goals from RIVERA &
EDU
(pictured above) in the last minute with the winner. For Espanyol
LUIS GARCIA scored a brilliant free kick, but it was not enough,
Espanyol let another 3 points go away.

DEPORTIVO recovered their play maker Valderon after 1 year absent
with injury & it served as an omen with a 3-1 victory over VALLADOLID
at home. It was their 1º win after 4 months in front of their fans who
celebrated the goals from LUPO ( above), XISCO & GUARDADO. For
Valladolid VICTOR managed the consolation goal. These 3ºpoints give
Deportivo oxigen in their fight to avoid the relegation zone.

The only goal by ALMERIA by MELO ( above) gave his team the
0 - 1 over VALENCIA CF away & further sent Valencia into turmoil.
The home crowd turned their anger towards caoch Koaman chanting

"...go home, leave". Big problems at Valencia, they are 5points away
from the relegation zone!

RACING managed to avoid defeat & draw in the very last minute
2-2 against REAL ZARAGOZA. Racing scored first via BOLADO
in the 3rd min, but Zaragoza got into the game with goals from
DIEGO MILITO in the 60th min & CELADES in the 83rd min.
But when it looked like a Zaragoza victory, TCHITE ( above) scored
in the last moment to deprive Zaragoza & its new coach Irureta the

victory.

FC BARCELONA slipped away from home to ATHLETIC DE BILBAO
with a 1-1 draw to the delight of its arch rival Real Madrid. Barça just

could´nt finish off their chances, although young BOJAN got them on
the scoresheet first in the 34th min. However, LLORENTE in the 77th
min managed to grab the prized draw.

REAL MADRID managed a very important win tonight against a tough
rival VILLAREAL by 3-2. The 3ºpoints & the draw by FC Barcelona put
Real now 9ºpoints ahead as leader of the Spanish 1º Division.

Real Madrid Brazilian forward ROBINHO ( pictured celebrating one of his
two goals ) was one of the main protagonists, along with Guti & the rest
of his teammates. Robinho scored first in the 8th min ahead of a superb pass
from Guti to set him up.

Villareal reacted in the 15th min thanks to its young Italian player ROSSI
(above) to level things, however ROBINHO got Real Madrid back in
track & ahead in the 52th min with his 2ºnd goal.
Then with 15min to go, the game went "crazy" with CAPDEVILA equalizing
for Villareal in the 75th min, to later have SNEIJDER ( below) score 4mins
later & put back into the lead Real Madrid.

From then on Real coach Schuster used the substitute "instrument" to
halt play & ease the tension, giving advice to his players to keep their
heads & secure the result.
Real Madrid now escape from their rivals after this win & are closer to
claiming the title. However, there is a long way still, but they have given
the rest a hard moral blow.

REAL ZARAGOZA TRANSFER RUMOURS: LIVERPOOL FC AFTER PABLO AIMAR?

News from English paper "Daily Mirror", which has been picked up
locally by "Marca" inform that English Premier League & European
Cup sub-Champions LIVERPOOL FC may make a move for the
currently injuried ( pelvis) & recovering Argentine & REAL ZARAGOZA
midfielder
PABLO AIMAR.

Liverpool coach Benitez sees Aimar as a value asset for his team
as he coached the Argentine back in Valencia, & knows well what he can
add to the English side.
Its speculated that Liverpool will put 13M€ on the table to convience

Zaragoza that this is the best for both parties. Stay tuned!

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR AFTER CARLES PUYOL & VIDEO OF RONALDINHO, DECO & MOTTA AT THE BEACH

How´s this for news out of "Mundo Deportivo" that picked it up from
"Sky Sports". According to the latter
TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS
representatives have flown to Barcelona to discuss the possibilty of
Barça Captain CARLES PUYOL going over to London. It is the wish

of Tottenham´s Spanish coach Juande to make 30 year old Carles
Puyol the new leader of the team in the future.
SFS wishes them luck as it is going to be difficult for the English club
to fulfill their wish.

This is for the fans. A video of Ronaldinho, Deco & Motta at the beach
practicing "futvolley". By the way, they don´t do it too badly at all.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA - ROUND 21 /2008 SATURDAY GAME

Just one match played tonight of Round 21 of "La Liga" with a tough
affair between SEVILLA FC & OSASUNA with the former winning
2-1 in the last minute.

The 1º half was even with both sides wary of each other & went
into the break without scoring.
The 2º half saw both side going out with a different attitude & with

victory on their minds. The game was tough, so tough that the yellow
card was seen more than the ball at times.
The 1ºst to score was POULSEN in the 54th min for Sevilla & that made
Osasuna go all out. They were rewarded in the 68th min with a goal

by SOLA that equalized things.

Then it was an all in affair with 2 red cards to Osasuna , one off which
came about with a penalty ( or not) to Sevilla which LUIS FABIANO
scored in
the 93rd min to give his team the final victory. Here is the VIDEO
of the highlights:

RCD ESPANYOL & REAL MADRID TRANSFER TALKS 2008

RCD ESPANYOL see REAL MADRID forward ROBERTO SOLDADO
as the ideal replacement for injuried forward & Spanish International
RAUL TAMUDO. Since Tamudo´s injury the club has dropped in
effectiveness & goal slipping in the classification table, for this reason
"Marca" publish that Espanyol will go all out in the negotiations.

However, two hurdles Espanyol must overcome:
1. Coach Schuster does not wish to let Soldado go, specially now that
Saviola is injuried. Schuster does´nt wish to have a gap upfront in case
V.Nistelrooy gets injuried
2.Real Madrid only desires to sell & not loan. The price no less than
5M €

But, according to "Sport", Espanyol has PLAN B. The other possiblity
is
ex-Zaragoza player & now STUTTGURT, Brazilian EWERTHON.
The Germans would look favourably at a loan.

Stay with REAL MADRID, the sometime over enthusiastic daily
"Marca" publish on their cover today that Real is negotiating with
Brazilian club SANTOS for the 18 year old foward TIAGO LUIS -
"the next Messi" ( Marca´s words not SFS). SFS will stay tuned
on developments, until then SFS has found this video of the youngster
in action with 2º goals for his current team.

VIDEO: 30 GREAT FOOTBALL/SOCCER GOALS

SFS has been surfing the Web & has come across this VIDEO from
"Edum" who has put together 14.37 mins of the "30 Best Goals"
according to his criteria, which is´nt bad at all. So I thought I´ll bang
it on SFS for the readers as its full of Spanish & "La Liga" based players.
You may notice a few goals missing, but hey, what the
hell, they are
all great. Enjoy!

INIESTA EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH FC BARCELONA UNTIL 2014

The 23 year old FC BARCELONA & Spanish International midfielder
ANDRES INIESTA ( below with Barça President Laporta) is a very
fine player, SFS would add, a real gem. Fc Barcelona know this & wish
to secure their treasure for themselves & from other clubs.

Today Barça & Iniesta extended their contract until 2014, with the
player bettering his salary & the club increasing his release clause
from 60M€ to 150€. As we can see from the image both parties are
happy & the reason is the Barça keeps a young & excellent player as
the below video illustrates ( fine music by "Arctic Monkeys"):

LYON OFFER 15M€ FOR RACING PLAYER GARAY

RACING DE SANTANDER 21 year old Argentine forward
EZEQUIEL GARAY ( pictured) is a very fine Football player, &
half of Europe knows it. So much so, the French team LYON has

put on the table 15M€ in order to convience the Spanish club to let
to young player fly over to France.

English Premier League club, TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR, tried
earlier with a 10M€ offer that was rejected & Real Madrid was
in there testing the waters as well.

What´s certain is that Garay is on his way for big things.

FORMULA 1: LEWIS HAMILTON STILL SLEEPS WITH ALONSO

Translated literally the headline from Spanish daily "Marca" the
words from Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton: "Alonso tought me
what I should never do". Interesting effort to reach new heights

of thought from a driver who has not won absolutely nothing to
brag about & lost last years Formula 1 Championship to inexperience
& over confidence. But hey! were all human, right,... right !

Mr. Lewis, a true professional with class never speaks continously
about fellow Formula 1 professionals, specially if that person in which
you speak off is no longer in your team to cause you any "problems".
If SFS is not mistaken, Alonso is no longer at McClaren due to your
behind the scenes knife sharpening, crying & childish tantrums.

However, this fascination with Fernando Alonso looks to be entering
into the "psychlogical problems" zone for Mr.Lewis, perhaps paranoia.
Get some professional help son.

SFS does
agree in one thing with Hamilton words; everyone should
learn what not to do thanks
to Lewis Hamilton. Shut up, get on with
your work & at least win - if you
can - back to back World Formula 1
Championship titles & then we may actually take you seriously. Look

around you Mr.Lewis your in a mans sport, so begin to act as one. Opps,
sorry forgot, your actually a fine actor indeed.

HANDBALL: SPAIN CRASHES IN THE 2008 EUROPEANS

From glory to disaster, thats the Spanish National Handball teams
Curriculum for the European Handball Championships. Their
overall finishing position is Nº9 & have to play again in upcoming
tournaments to see if they can get to the Pekin 2008 Olympics via

the "back door".

The only reason SFS finds at this moment is the unlucky run with
injuries of "key" players & the changing of the "glorious" old guard.
Lets hope Spain can lift from this.

SPANISH CUP Q/FINALS 2008 - 1º LEG THURSDAY GAMES

The last two 1º leg SPANISH CUP Q/Final games were played tonight
with the following results & scorers.

RACING DE SANTANDER are half way already to the semis after
defeating ATHLETIC DE BILBAO 2-0 at home. The local heroes
were TCHITE who scored in the 74th min & four minutes later
the Polish "wonder" SMOLAREK

FC BARCELONA survived & are nicely set up for the 2º leg after
drawing 0-0 with VILLAREAL. Barça were without some important
players & did fine to hold out to allow them to fight again at "Camp
Nou" in the decider.

SPANISH CUP - 1º LEG Q/FINALS 2008

Two games played tonight of the SPANISH CUP 1º leg Q/Finals
with the other two scheduled for tomorrow.

GETAFE let off the hook MALLORCA with 1-0 victory after dominanting
a non-existent visiting side from start to finish. Said in other words, Getafe
could not finish the "killing" of its opponent that now has the chance to
turn the table in the 2º leg clash.
The score for Getafe was DE LA RED ( above).

Same story here as well, Valencia dominanted & "let off the hook"
Atletico, who will attempt to grab the tie at their home ground in

the 2º leg. Final score:
VALENCIA CF 1 ( Silva 32min) - ATLETICO DE MADRID 0

Tomorrows other & remaining Q/Final 1º leg clashes are :
Racing - Athletic de Bilbao
Villareal - Fc Barcelona

VILLAREAL TRANSFER NEWS 2008: SIGNS MARCO RUBEN FROM RIVER

News out from Argentina media & published in "Marca" confirm
the VILLAREAL has signed 21 year old Argentine & RIVER PLATE
forward MARCO RUBEN ( below).

The media speculate that the deal cost 7M€ & River will get 15% of
future transfer fees. Lets welcome the player over to "La Liga" &
wish him luck.

REAL MADRID NEWS 2008: SIGNNINGS - BAD MANAGEMENT OR JUST INJURIES AND BAD LUCK?

Interesting piece in "Marca" commenting on the list of injuries
that REAL MADRID is experiencing from its new signnings this
year. As we can see below (Robben; Saviola; Pepe; Heinze;
Metzelder & Sneijder), between all these new faces for this season
they have missed 64 games.
Lots of cash invested for so little return!

The most absent is Robben with 12 games, followed by Metzelde &
Heinze, which leads many to ask what criteria or policy does Real
Madrid follow in deciding their signnings. Perhaps SFS is mistaken
following this path
& the answers come from the medical team,
the coaching staff, the coach or the directives who sign without knowledge.
The Spanish paper "Marca" does not go into that type of judgements,
it solely highlights the "unlucky" injuries that happen to fall on the
new signnings. The answers are left for each to ponder.
Whats your thoughts?

MOTOGP AND FORMULA 1: SPANIARDS WORKING HARD

For all our motor readers at SFS here is a brief post to let you know
that both MotoGp & Formula 1 are already hard at work along with

the corresponding Spanish Sportsmen in each area.

MotoGp is doing their thing - testing & fine tuning - at Sepang
(Malaysia) with the only bad news being that DANI PEDROSA (above)

fell in a spectacular fashion & injuried his hand. A serious reverse
so early that we hope does´nt set back his preparation.
Good news was the 9th place by 2 time 250cc World Champ JORGE
LORENZO
, who has jumped up in catagory & is with Yahama &

teammate of Valentino Rossi.

In Formula 1, Spanish 2 time World Champ, FERNANDO ALONSO,
is already in control & putting to work his new automobile the R28
(Renault - pictured above) at the Cheste (Valencia SPAIN) circuit. The

performance is excellent & the sensations are very good, as Alonso is
surprising most with his times. Obviously lots of work ahead, but it seems
a good start for Fernando & Renault.
