The name of current Benfica Brazilian left-back Guillerme Siqueira has been associated with the Spanish Football Club Real Madrid in the past months. I posted here that the defender was seen as the replacement for Coentrao at Real Madrid.
However, Football has its quick turns & new angles. The Brazilian is now more closer to Atletico de Madrid than elsewhere. The reason is that current Atletico de Madrid left-back Felipe Luis is very close to going over to English Premier League Club Chelsea FC were Coach Mourinho desires that he take over the position left vacant by Ashley Cole.
Spanish Sports paper "Marca" informs that Atletico de Madrid has come to an agreement with Spanish Club Granada (owner of the player which loaned out to Benfica) for a figure around 10M€ for Siqueira. This way Atletico de Madrid secures itself a "top class" defender to substitute Luis Felipe, who as mentioned above, looks very close to landing at Chelsea FC next season for around 25M€.
It is expected that Siquiera will fly in from Brazil, where he is on vacation, in the coming days to pass the medical check & sign his contract with At.Madrid.
The Brazilian left back Guilherme Siquiera was very close to signing to Real Madrid at the start of this season. The deal was practically done & all that was needed was that Manchester United sign Coentrao. In the last minute of the transfer deadline ( right on mid-night) while Siquiera waited outside the Benfica Club doors for Real Madrid to call him, the negotiations between Real Madrid & Manchester United backfired over if they should sell or loan.
The end result was that Coentrao stayed at Real Madrid & Siquiera stayed this season at Benfica. The Brazilian has taken the left - back position at Benfica & is having a marvellous season with the Club.
Yesterday, a local late-night National TV Football programme announced that barring something terrible, Guilherme Siquiera would be a new signing for Real Madrid for next season. It is almost certain that current left-back Coentrao will not be continuing & Siquiera is the chosen replacement.
If this is correct it shuts the door on young Spanish International & Sevilla FC defender Alberto Moreno who was also tipped to be the new left-back at Real Madrid. Siquiera is an excellent Football player, a typical Brazilian with attacking spirit that has an fabulous shot when aimed at goal.
As with all these types of news pieces, until the Clubs make it official, they remain rumour. Although the "strength" of the news & the precedents makes one believe that it could well be tied up. Stay tuned.
According to Football observers & insiders at Real Madrid, Coach Carlo Ancelotti has doubts with the current left back position. Brazilian International Marcelo is undisputed but he has a injury tendency & he loses form easily as he has recurring "weight problems". The current substitute Coentrao is unhappy at the Club & may be one of the players that will leave before the 31 st of August. Clubs like Tottenham Hotspurs, Benfica & Monaco have shown interest in Coentrao but his high price tag has halted progression for the moment.
There is an alternative & at an "economical" price - 8M€ approx. The 27 year old Brazilian Guilherme Siqueira of Spanish Football Team Granada is on the Real Madrid list. The player has already caught the eyes & interest from Clubs like Valencia CF, Atletico de Madrid, Galatasaray, Swansea & Everton.
