Spanish Club REAL MADRID has defeated GREMIO PORTO ALEGRE 1 - 0 in the Final of the 2017 FIFA World Clubs Championships to repeat title. It´s the Spanish Clubs 5th mayor title for 2017 finishing the year off almost perfectly. This victory & title will give them a shot in the arm with confidence with the big Liga match up coming next Saturday against FC Barcelona.
The winner came from a tremendous free kick from Cristiano Ronaldo in the 53rd min. A free kick goal that was aided by the fact that the Gremio defenders left a gap in their wall, but it was a goal, and the winner.
The victory was deserved for Real Madrid which was superior throughout the whole game. Their only ongoing fault is the lack of effectiveness in-front of goal. The Spaniards had countless goal opportunities but failed to covert. If Real Madrid had been able to find the net the scoreline could have easily been 5 - 0. Modric even hit the post.
The other players of note were Varane, Marcelo, Casemiro & Gareth Bale, who came on the last 10 mins & nearly scored while showing pace. Good news for Real Madrid to see Bale coming back into form.
Luka Modric was outstanding & was given the "Golden Ball" for Best Player of the tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo received the "Silver Ball" as the second Best Player of the tournament & "Man of the Final". Sergio Ramos, believe it or not, ironically received the "Fair Play Award".
Congratulations to Gremio, they did their Best tonight but was out played by a better team on this particular night & occasion.
