Spain played Macedonia tonight in their World Cup 2018 Group qualifier. The top Group spot is closely contended along with Italy & a win tonight was important for Spain to maintain the prized position. While Italy won their group game, Spain managed a 4 - 0 victory over Macedonia to stay on top.
Spain has some injuries of their regular players like Ramos, Pique, Alba, Iniesta etc., & put forward the following starting 11:
De Gea, Carvajal, Bartra, Nacho, Monreal, Busquets, Thiago, Koke, Vitolo, Silva & Morata.
David Silva was Captain tonight & exercised it well being the main play-maker along with Thiago. Macedonia was very defensive & was difficult to break most of the game even though Spain had up to 70% of ball domination.
Spain was finally rewarded for their efforts in the 34th min when Macedonia defender Velkoski scored an own goal which put Spain in front.
Macedonia did have some goal opportunities created from their counter-attacks but the Spanish defenders & goalie David De Gea managed to neutralise their sporadic dangerous attacks.
The second goal for Spain came from Vitolo in the 63rd min which settled things for the home side. Spanish Coach Lopetegui then made some chances bringing on Aduriz, Isco & Callejon & more goals came the home team´s way.
The third was scored in the 84th min through Monreal & quickly the fourth through Aduriz in the 85th min to close the match & secure the three points.
Next match against England next week in an International friendly game.
