SPAIN 8 - LIECHTENSTEIN 0 | WORLD CUP 2018 GROUP RESULT

Good start for Spain on the road for the FIFA World Cup Championships in Russia 2018. SPAIN defeated Liechtenstein 8 - 0 in their Group qualifier opening match played tonight in the Spanish city of Leon.

Coach Julen Lopetegui started with the below 11 which included Sergi Roberto, Vitolo & Diego Costa from the beginning.

Liechtenstein came into this game to defend & put their whole team in their own half hoping to maximise on the mistakes that Spain may force. The fact is they held out until the 10th min when Diego Costa headed the first goal. To the visitors merit they held Spain goalless until the 55th min when it began to rain Spanish goals.

Spanish Coach Lopetegui gave young Real Madrid star Marco Asensio his official debut with the "A side" in the 80th min, shutting any chance Holland may have had in calling up the player for their own National Team. The mother of Marco Asensio is Dutch & there was a possibility that Holland could have "snatched" up the rising star. 

Spain gets the three points & a good goal advantage which maybe important when qualifying. The first position of the Group gives direct qualification for Russia 2018 & the Group has complicated opponents like Italy.
