SPANISH FOOTBALL | LIGA | ROUND 1 MONDAY NIGHT FINAL RESULTS

The last two scheduled matches of Round 1 of Spanish Football Liga were played tonight - Monday - with the following final results & all the goalscorers.

Spanish Liga Football 2014

Real Madrid hosted newly promoted Cordoba & managed to win with a final 2 - 0 result. A grey & disappointing Real Madrid exhibition which beforehand created much hype & anticipation with their all-star line-up. Xabi Alonso & Carvajal  were left on the bench & James Rodriguez was given the responsibility to help forget the departed Angel Di Maria. The end result was that Real Madrid still needs to sort out some positional issues & gain more playing time to help fit into their "puzzle" the new incorporations. Tonights efforts made many observers remember Di Maria instead of forgetting.

Cordoba lost the game but gave an excellent image, standing firm & offering good confident Football which created opportunities of goals that did not convert due to off-side decisions or bad execution. A surprise result was a real possibility but the Real Madrid players with their individual qualities saved the night.

The opening goal came in the 30th min when Karim Benzema headed a Toni Kroos corner. The second, & the sealer, came in the 90th min from a Cristiano Ronaldo individual play with a "power-driver" included that beat the Cordoba goalie. Big relief for CR7 who was nervous & very anxious all match continuously looking for his "goal fix".

In the end the three points were gained which was the important objective so early in
the new Liga season.

Spanish Liga Football 2014 Rayo Vallecano

Spanish Liga Champions Atletico de Madrid travelled to Rayo Vallecano for the city of Madrid derby to start off the new Liga 2014 - 2015 season. The final result a 0 - 0 draw was to say the least surprising. Possibly the worst performance from Atletico de Madrid in a very long time as their Coach Diego Simeone watched in the stands after being handed a 8 week suspension after his red card in the Spanish Super Cup Final last Thursday.

A sticky & rocky Rayo Vallecano who stood firm & organized all game withstanding the Atletico de Madrid attacks while at the same time creating their own dangerous counter-attacks. Atletico de Madrid had some clear chances - especially in the 1ºst half - but failed to convert after poor executions.

Rayo Vallecano had their best moments from the 70th min when forward Manucho came on & nearly scored a header had not Atletico goalie Moya intervened. In the end Atletico de Madrid was lucky to have got off with a draw & the point.

Atletico de Madrid will get better, & Rayo Vallecano will be satisfied tonight with their good performance holding off & nearly surprising the current Liga Champions.
