for Manchester United Serbian defender Vidic have been confirmed by Barcelona based Spanish Sports paper "Mundo Deportivo". In yesterdays post I mentioned a reported interested & following by Barça of Vidic but put in doubt the speculation based on the age of the player currently 32 years old.
Today we see a list of other candidates which are also supposedly being followed by FC Barcelona to cover the Central Defender position for next season:
- Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Club)
- Iñigo Martínez (Real Sociedad)
- Mateo Musacchio (Villarreal)
Three top defenders indeed & without doubt with Iñigo Martinez of Real Sociedad a Spanish International who has been speculated is on the Real Madrid agenda for next season. There maybe some competition for Barça with this player.
But the "hot" name gaining positions is Fabian Schär , 22 year old Swiss defender currently at FC Basil. The player seems to meet the requirements of what Barça are looking for; skilled with good footwork, good aerial work, solid & youth with projection.
I have no doubt that we will be hearing more new names in coming months. I "smell" a fight of interests with player representatives using their media contacts to place their "clients" while FC Barcelona uses the media to divert attention away from their true objective. It will be fun!
