Newly promoted Elche ( Alicante ) hosted Real Sociedad & managed a 1 - 1 draw. The home team was anxious to give a good show to their local fans & started "on fire" catching the visitors by complete surprise. Elche went ahead first with a 2º min goal by Coro.
Real Sociedad had their mind on the upcoming mid-week all important 2º leg Champions League preliminary match against Lyon. The visitors slowly managed to get their game & mind in place for this match to improve & equalize in the 74th min with a Carlos Vela goal.
Somewhat of a surprise at Barcelona when local Club RCD Espanyol defeated Valencia CF 3 - 1. The visitors have had a "tense" week with some internal issues between players & Coach & this tension may have played a part in the final team performance.
Espanyol did everything correct even when they did it wrong as things were aligned for them tonight. Although Valencia scored first early in the 10th min with Postinga, the Espanyol goals came soon after with a Diego Lopez equalizer in the 31st min, a Stuani header in the 47th min & a "cracker" from Thievy in the 89th min. Three points to Espanyol & some internal ongoing debate for Valencia CF.
Serious game by Villareal at home defeating Valladolid 2 - 1. Although Valladolid scored first thanks to Javi Guerra in the 4th min, Villareal stood solid & continued with their game plan. Giovani equalized in the 38th min via a penalty & Cani scored the winner for Villareal in the 84th min. Valladolid attempted some last minute attacks but were kept successfully at bay.
