Historical night & result for Spanish Football Club Malaga FC after defeating Portuguese Club Porto 2 - 0 in the 2ยบ leg Champions League game. The Spaniards managed to turn around an adverse 1 - 0 away result at Porto & win on aggregate 2- 1.
Malaga FC will be in the last 8 European Clubs UEFA draw on Friday to know who will be their next opponents in the quarter-final phase of Champions League.
The match started evenly but Malaga slowly began taking over events & the Football. The Spanish team was more determined & more ambitious with excellent contributions in all the positions especially Joaquin, Saviola, Toulalan, Wellington & Isco.
It was the Malaga youngster Isco who pulled a "rabbit out of the hat" with a superbly created & executed goal in the 43rd min that put Malaga into the tie. Then a red card to Porto player Defour left the Portuguese down to 10 men & Malaga with spaces & the advantage exploited the situation to advance.
The Portuguese held out bravely the Malaga attacks & even created chances for themselves but a corner header from Roque Santa Cruz ( who came on for Baptista ) in the 77th min put Malaga ahead in the tie. Porto reacted to attempt to find the one goal they needed to go through but were stopped by off-sides & the Malaga defence / goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
The final whistle lead to a burst of jubilation on the field for Malaga players & the fans in the stadium. Tonight Malaga will celebrate in the streets this historic & unique moment in the history of the Club. Spanish Football celebrates as well getting in all three Spanish Clubs into the quarter - finals of Champions.
