The Friday night match between VALLADOLID & ATHLETIC CLUB BILBAO finished in a 2 - 2 draw. Valladolid started well with JAVI GUERRA scoring in the 7th min & BUENO scoring in the 15th min to put the home team 2 goals up. However, Valladolid lost control, perhaps feeling comfortable, & Bilbao grew to score in the 22nd min via DE MARCOS. Bilbao lifted in confidence & in the 55 th min SUSAETA equalized. Valladolid managed to recompose themselves & avoid Bilbao taking the three points. Close call for the locals, unfinished business for the visitors.
If any team needed the three points that team was OSASUNA which won 1 - 0 CELTA DE VIGO. The winner came in the 55 th min thanks to ARMENTEROS. Celta on the other hand are going through a nightmare run of results & the relegation option looks closer than further away.
RCD ESPANYOL notced up their 4th straight win at home & managed to put more space between themselves & the relegation area of the table. They managed to win 3 - 2 LEVANTE in a top match of Football.
The balance was broken by Espanyol in the 40 th min when IBORRA got a own goal that put Espanyol ahead. RUBEN then equalized for Levante in the 47th min. Espanyol then turned things right around to their advantage & scored via STUANI in the 67th min & SERGIO GARCIA in the 69th min. MARTINS then managed a second in the 87th min for Levante but their efforts came late, Espanyol had done the damage earlier.
GETAFE lost their goalie Moya in the 9th min & was down 10 men till the end. From this event came the penalty & only goal that DEPORTIVO A CORUÑA managed tonight via PIZZI. However, Getafe with disadvantage turned things around starting with penalty in the 25th min converted by DIEGO CASTRO. Then late in the game Getafe got two more via VAZQUEZ in the 81st min & COLUNGA in the 83rd min.
Final result 3 - 1 & the moral of the story, Deportivo are in deep trouble.
GRANADA defeated REAL MADRID 1 - 0 thanks to an own goal - his first in his whole career - by CRISTIANO RONALDO in the 22 nd min with a Granada corner header clearance attempt that went the wrong way. Granada did their job of annoying & frustrating their opponents which had their heads in the upcoming Spanish Cup semi final 2º leg against FC Barcelona.
Real Madrid was not flowing, perhaps because Ozil was missing out due to accumulated cards suspension, & because Granada was being a "pain in the ass" all night. Madrid had their chances, plenty of chances, but they failed to convert & they paid dearly for it by losing the match, the three points & allowing their arch rivals Barça to open up a bigger gap in the Liga title race. So big is the points gap with Barça that the Liga title will be forgotten by Madrid to concentrate all their efforts in the Spanish Cup & Champions League competitions.
Granada earned their victory & rightly so as they are fighting their own particular battle of avoiding relegation & this victory is a "shot in the arm" for their confidence & objective of surviving in the Spanish First Division.
