It was´nt all easy as Spain equalized in the very last minute to force extra-time, there was a long moment during the match that seemed as if Spain had missed the boat even though they controlled the game. The Spaniards dominated the encounter but were not able to penetrate the disciplined Belarus defence. Then in a side-line throw-in Belarus managed a "freak" overhead kick via VORONKOV in the 38th min that found the net.
Adrian scores for Spain |
From this moment onwards Spain went all out to attack & attempt to find the needed equalizer, & as time ran & the finish got closer the nerves & anxiety took over the Spaniards. Spanish Coach Milla put on forwards Capel, Jeffren & Bojan in a last ditch attempt to avoid disaster. Then the miracle came in the 89th min when Capel found the head of ADRIAN who equalized & forced the extra-time.
From here, Spain took control & ADRIAN scored again in the 105th min to take his persoanl Championships tally to 5 goals to make him the leading goal scorer, followed by a pile-driver from JEFFREN to seal the match in the 113th min, seal a final place & the Olympic Games place.
Spain now goes into the Final next Saturday. A great match for Spain & a great performance, but it was close, real close!
