BASKETBALL | 2010 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS | SERBIA KNOCKS OUT SPAIN 92 - 89

The 2006 World & 2009 European Champs SPAIN was 89 points with Serbia equal with 89 points as well & 29 seconds left to go of normal time. The Serbs had the ball & waited thinking in extra-time & then Teodosic decides with 4 seconds left ( above image) to try his luck from 10 mts, & he scores a 3 pointer to take Serbia 92 – 89. With 3 seconds left, Spain had no margin to react & were knocked out from the World Basketball Championships.

We can analyse endlessly here why Spain has been knocked out, but why waste your time. Firstly, Spain was not up to the level needed. Secondly, Serbia played better. Thirdly, losing to France & Lithuania in the Group qualifiers were early warning signs to really take note. Lastly, the most important point, Spain without LA Laker star Pau Gasol is a couple of steps below the important World sides. Yes, Spain played brilliantly the warm-up games but it’s the competition matches that count.

No more analysis or explanation needed I think although many will have various reasons to explain what they believe is an unfair or accidental early departure of Spain from the competition. If so, their right & opinion.
