No one said the road would be easy, but although the final objective of playing in the Final of a World Cup has yet to be achieved, the SPANISH NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM made history tonight defeating PARAGUAY 0-1 & going into the semi-final. The historic "curse" of the World Cup "quarter-finals wall" has been overcome & for now the nation is cheerful before concentrating on Germany next Wednesday.

Paraguay were a "tough nut to crack", possibly the toughest, as they played a mighty game that nearly gave them fruits & had the European Champions against the ropes. The 1ºst half was rough & scary as Paraguay went all out & stopped Spain in their tracks. But the excitement all occured in the 2º half with a chain of events that finally decided the game.

The first event was the penalty called after Spanish defender Pique fouled a Paraguay player in the goal area in the 59th min. IKER CASILLAS questioned all throughout the tournament shut the months of the critics stopping the penalty shot from CARDOZO. This was VITAL. IKER CASILLAS would later repeat the feat stopping two shots late in the game that saved Spain again...but...
a chain of crazy events then took place when in the following play DAVID VILLA was fouled in the Spanish goal area & awarded a penalty. XABI ALONSO took it to score in the 61st min but was ordered to repeat the penalty again which he missed when Paraguay goalkeeper VILLAR stopped it but fouled Spaniard CESC FABREGAS to which this & another penalty was not called.

It looked like the curse of the "quarter-final" was again hoovering over the heads of the Spanish Football Team, when Spanish Coach Del Bosque reacted putting in Pedro to give fresh air upfront. It paid off in the 83rd min when in a counter-attack PEDRO hit the post & DAVID VILLA picked up the rebound to score the winning goal.

The rest is HISTORY as SPAIN qualifies for the first time ever into a World Cup semi-final.

Now it is going to get even more difficult as Spain meets Germany next Wednesday & it promises to be a real battle. But Spain will get to that on Wednesday, now its cheers & enjoy the moment. Magical night, historical night!
