The SPANISH NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM travels to the city of Durban to face its opening Group H WORLD CUP 2010 game against Switzerland this Wednesday at 16.00 (S.A time). The big unknown is if midfielder ANDRES INIESTA will make the final list of SPAIN PLAYERS to start in the already mentioned match. The player himself said to Spanish TV that he is fine & ready to play, however National Coach Vicente Del Bosque has him under wraps & in the training practice game had Iniesta in the substitute team.
Many media observers have three theories:
1. The National Coach Del Bosque is hiding his playing cards & is bluffing. I think this is very unlikely from Del Bosque’s part - although never to be discarded.
2. That National Coach Del Bosque does not wish to risk the player so early from his recovery & suffer the possibility of having Iniesta fall again into a worst injury. This is more likely.
3. Following point 2. that Valencia CF player JUAN MATA will be the person who will fill in the place of Andres Iniesta against Switzerland. This idea comes from the training sessions that Coach Del Bosque has put together & the composition of players in the training games that placed Juan Mata in the theorical starting line-up.
Said all this, no one knows for certain what will be the the final SPAIN TEAM LINEUP for Switzerland until the actual kick-off.
Here is the SPAIN WORLD CUP STARTING 11 according to Spanish media observers after watching the last training sessions. As mentioned this is totally HYPOTHETICAL & thus should be taken as such at this moment:
Casillas, Ramos, Piqué, Puyol, Capdevila, Xavi, Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Silva, Villa & Mata ( Iniesta???)

how is del bosque not starting torres at this point? spain went through euro 2008 with 2 strikers, the chemistry between villa and torres is tremendous...i dont see torres sitting on the bench.
PJH
Del Bosque doesnt want to risk putting in Torres too early from his knee injury. Torres went in for Liverpool FC from this same knee injury too early & you saw what happened... better no to force the player & have him 100% for last 16 stage / Q/F ...etc.
Del Bosque will give him short bursts in the opening games in the 2 half to pick up form
Plus there is a debate on whether Spain plays better with justone forward upfront (Villa in this particular case). Spain has so many attacking midfielders with goal that they seem to play better with one forward. In fact , for your information, Spain played most of Euro 2008 with just 1 forward (Torres) upfront , when Villa injured himself, & they won.
