I'm not opposed to recognition for Xavi. In fact - in my book he could well be the best "player". But it seems that the IFFHS is specifically talking about "play-making" - which Xavi is the king of. The question is - can Xavi compete with Messi in the much broader "best player" category?
I think so...definately
I'm just looking at those highlighted players - Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas. What a midfield for Spain. I think that it is an unprecedented midfield. The greatest midfield of all-time?
All time? Spain ( National Team & Clubs level) has had impressive midfield line-ups in the past ...
Real Madrid of the 60s & 80s
FC Barcelona ( Kubala /Suarez)
Spanish National Team - 1986
Its all relative...but you are right, today its very impressive...& much more important - YOUNG!
You're right it is relative. But my point was even broader. I was thinking that - especially if Spain win and impress this summer - it is the greatest midfield of any country - including some of those great Brazil teams.
Yes, IF they win :)
