The FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 kicked off today with Group A
games, starting with a South Africa 0 - Iraq 0 draw, that has just seen
the other result with NEW ZEALEND defeated 0-5 by SPAIN.

Spain was clearly the superior side with New Zealand turning out
to be a "sparring partner" with all due respects to them as they played
within their limits under the circumstances. Liverpool FC striker
FERNANDO TORRES scored a HAT-TRICK ( 05th, 13th & 16th min)
& had the match sealed for Spain in the first 17 minutes of the
match.

The "Kiwis" were rattled & the goals continued with another
coming via CESC FABREGAS after great play from Riera & Capdevila
in the 23rd min to set him up.

The second half got off as it finished with DAVID VILLA capitalising
in a huge defensive mistake in the 48th min that gave Spain its fifth
& final goal of the game.
See this VIDEO of Villa´s goal:
From here Spain made some changes Xavi, Ramos & Torres were
rested to give Arbeloa, Carzola & Silva a run. Spain relaxed & New
Zealand gained back some pride, but the former were never in
danger at any moment.
Good result, important to get off on the right foot for Spain & now
its time to prepare the next clash scheduled for next Wednesday
against Iraq.

i'd love it if spain was the only team to win a game and NZ, Iraq and SA all played to scoreless draws. that would be fun.
