SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2008/09 - ROUND 31 SATURDAY GAMES RESULTS

Tonight 5 games were played of Round 31 of the Spanish League with
the status-quo between the two run away teams - FC Barcelona & Real
Madrid - as it was last Round.

FC BARCELONA played away to GETAFE & won 0-1 to keep its 6 point
lead over second placed Real Madrid. LEONEL MESSI was the goalscorer
in in the 18th min. Barça played well all game & were disallowed another
Messi goal late in the 2ºhalf when it was judged off-side. Narrow win,
deserved & they remain on their path for the title.

ATLETICO DE MADRID kept their promise to the fans ( see the post
below) & won 3-0 the bottom placed NUMANCIA putting a nail in the
coffin of
Numancia who faces relegation. Atletico momentarily jump
into 4th place ( & Champions position) on the ladder while they await the
results of Valencia & Villareal tomorrow.

Goals came via BENEGA, FORLAN & SIMAO. Here is hoping Atletico

maintains this play & reach their Champions League objective.

Rugged match that ended in a 1-1 draw for MALAGA &
MALLORCA.
Deserved result with the highlights being the two excellent goals from
APOÑO in the 53rd min for Malaga & ARANGO in the 59th min for
Mallorca

A last minute goal from DEPORTIVO via PABLO ALVAREZ has
put ATHLETIC DE BILBAO dangerously close to the relegation
zone. Bilbao have their heads thinking in the Spanish Cup final against
FC Barcelona & that could prove them very costly.
Final result 0-1

REAL MADRID visited RECREATIVO DE HUELVA & did their job.
The result was 0-1 with goal from Brazilian MARCELO in the 49th min
& they keep breathing down the backs of leaders FC Bareclona hoping that

the latter makes a mistake in the following weeks with their tough schedule
of Champions, Liga & Spanish Cup games.
