SPANISH FOOTBALL: JOAQUIN CORTIZO HISTORICAL RECORD GAMES SUSPENSION HOLDER

Seeing that REAL MADRID defender PEPE has indirectly increased
worldwide interest in Spanish Football (Soccer) the last couple of days,
here is an interesting piece of “trivia” that will answer some inquiries
SFS is receiving in its email.

The person – player with the historical all time record of match
suspension in Spanish Football goes to JOAQUIN CORTIZO, a right
back from
REAL ZARAGOZA (pictured) that was punished with 24
GAMES
in the 1964/65
season. The action that leads to the punishment
was a brutal tackle on Atletico
de Madrid player Enrique Collar which
fractured the upper part of the left leg. The upper part, imagine the
entry & the tackle, plus there was probably no
television for the
replays & "YouTube" thankfully was´nt invented.
