SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA 2008 /09 - ROUND 27 SATURDAY GAMES RESULTS

REAL MADRID visited ATHLETIC DE BILBAO after the hard defeat
at Liverpool & had to pull itself together again. They did so winning
2-5 in what can only be called a "war zone", just look at the physical
aspect with the below photo, that was the norm during the whole 90
minites.

Bilbao started strong early but ROBBEN scored first with a brilliant
zig -zag goal in the 22th min, that was followed with a second with a

header from a Sneijder free kick by HEINZE in the 33rd min. The
Argentine Real Madrid defender would two minutes later help give
Athletic de Bilbao its first with an own goal in the 35th min

The physical play did not stop & in the 37th min YESTE (below)

was sent off when he reacted violently by pushing Casillas to the
ground who recriminated Bilbao for not throwing the ball out
while Sneijder was down injuried thus allowing the goal to occur.
Sincerely, Yeste overreacted &
swallowed hook, line & sinker to leave
his team with 10 men

Bilbao spurred on by its home crowd put in the equalizer & their
2ºnd goal in the 45th min when FERNANDO LLORENTE headed

a magnificent goal to lift the "roof" off the stadium. Here is were
their goals ended, as they could´nt keep out Madrid with 10 men &
they were more concerned with the physical aspect than the mental
& tactical element of the game.

HUNTELAAR
scored twice in the 47th min & 61st min with goals
characteristic of a "goal area killer". The man does little & participates

the minimum, but give him the ball in the goal area & he smells the
net & cracks them. He is a "serial goal killer" & has 6 already in a short

space of time: a goal animal!

The final goal was by HIGUAIN who came on late & converted a
penalty awarded to Marcelo in the 87th min.

In summary, 11 yellow cards (mostly Bilbao) & 3 Red cards ( two

for the Bilbao bench), frankly Bilbao needs to restrain its
aggressiveness & channel it towrads the game. Lastly special mention

to LASSANA DIARRA who put in a brilliant match & PEPE who was
solid & is proving to be one of Europe´s finest young Central defenders

Great win for Real, a moral boost that puts pressure on FC Barcelona
to win tomorrow as they are now 3ºpoints behind.

See VIDEO of Highlights ( hope YouTube don´t remove):

VALENCIA CF are in trouble even though they managed to pull a
1-1 draw towards the end of their match against lower side
RECREATIVO DE HUELVA.

Valencia missed their star foward David Villa injuried & looked sloppy

all night. Recreativo got ahead first via CAMUÑAS who is in excellent
form in the 55th min. Valencia then lost Marchena in the 73rd min with

a Red Card & things looked indeed bad.

However, pure nerve & grit managed to help Valencia equalize when
PABLO HERNANDEZ (below) scored in the 84th min & what a sigh

of relief that was for Valencia fans.

Valencia with seroius financial problems is living a horror month as they
slip further down the classification table leaving the Top Euro positions
further out of sight.
