SPANISH CUP 2008 /2009: 2º LEG SEMI FINAL RESULTS

SEVILLA FC went into the 2º leg of the SPANISH CUP semi-final
against ATHLETIC DE BILBAO with a 1-2 advantage from the 1º
leg clash. However they faced a super motivated Bilbao who wanted to
go
into the final after 24 years of waiting. "The Cathedral", name given
to Bilbao home ground, was just that a place were miracles come
true, & it was loaded with a home ground atmosphere that can shrink
any
visiting team. The final result 3-0 to Bilbao (4-2 overall) that takes
them into the final of the Spanish Cup

Everything happened & was tied up in the 1ºst half with Bilbao blitzing
Sevilla. The first goal came early (see above) with a 3rd min goal from
JAVI MARTINEZ that set the stadium on fire. Martinez played an
outstanding game & deserves a mention.

But Bilbao has an excellent young forward upfront that can turn any
game to his team advantage with his demostration of skill & goal killer
instinct. FERNAND LLORENTE (above) scored his teams 2ºgoal in
the 33rd min & made the pass for his teammate TOQUERO
to knock
in for Bilbao´s third goal.

The 2nd half saw Sevilla try but Bilbao were on a mission tonight, that is,

to be the first to qualify directly to the Final. Grand comeback, a magical
night of Football at Bilbao. SEE VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS:

FC BARCELONA
will meet Bilbao in the final of the Spanish Cup after

keeping out a determined & worthy REAL MALLORCA. Barça came
to this 2ºleg game with a 2-0 advantage, & tonights 1-1 draw gives the
tie to Barça 3-1 overall & through to the final.

Mallorca started very well, surprising & taking the iniciative. They were

rewarded when CASTRO above gave them the lead in the 45th min, it
looked like Mallorca could turn things around.

They nearly did, Barcelona defender Caceres was sent off in the 51st min
& the penalty
that followed was missed by Mallorca MARTI, there was
the game!

Things evened up when Josemi for Mallorca was sent off in the 65th. Then
with MESSI on & doing his thing, the Argentine star scored in the 81st min

to equalize & seal the game.

Tough victory that shows that Barça are not running on all pistons, but

effective never the less. Great run by Mallorca to get here.
