break due to International games tonight with three games being played
of Round 2º. Here is a short summary with all the results, scorers &
some images.
ATLETICO DE MADRID felt the loss before their game of Forlan &
Heitinga to go down 2-1 away at VALLADOLID. Bad match for Atletico
who were not able to exploit the fact that Valladolid were down to 10
men from the 21st min when Pedro Lopez received a Red Card.
Valladolid got off to a dream start with a goal in the 3ºrd min thanks to
DORADO which "rocked" Atletico, to later see another goal in the
27th min when Valladolid player BARAJA converted a penalty.
With Valladolid down to 10 men, Atletico attempted the comeback & it
looked possible when in the 55th min SERGIO AGUERO pulled one
back to give his side hope. However, the solid defending from Valladolid,
some bad luck & the late anxious play from Atletico let them down to
leave Valladolid without any points.
FC BARCELONA had as "hosts" RACING DE SANTANDER &
finished in a 1-1 draw. A frustrating game for Barça as they controlled
the whole match ( 77% vs 23% possesion) & attacked all night (20
shots vs 1 shot). However, very strong & at times "violent" Racing defending
(Hleb injuried & taken off) & some very unlucky plays (Alves hit the bar)
was enough to give Racing its only chance in which it took advantage &
scored.
The 1ºhalf have without Messi & with youngsters Pedro & Busquets
in the starting line up saw Barça attack & attack to find no reward.
It was´nt until the 2ºhalf with Messi coming on that we saw finally
the Barça play & attacks prized with a penalty that MESSI converted
in the 71st min. Then the only real Racing attack all night saw a
"free - kick" given at the 74th min mark that saw PEREIRA (below)
divert to equalize for his team.
With 15 mins left , Barça Coach Guardiola changed his team to put up
4 forwards & go for the match. But it was´nt enough as the Racing
defence held out. A bad result for Barça & pressure on Coach Guardiola
as the fans are beginning to gramble. Needs a good result next week!
Grand game at SEVILLA FC with a 4-3 victory over promoted side
SPORTING DE GIJON. The latter gave the locals a real fright when
Sporting forward BILIC scored in the 17th min, & it was from then on
a seesaw match with goals exchanging until the end of the 1ºhalf.
Straight after Sportings 1º goal , BILIC put in another in the 20min
to give Sporting a surprise 2-0 lead, which Sevilla pulled back via
CHEVANTON in the 21st min, KANOUTE in the 36th min &
MARESMA in the 37th min to take the lead. But Sporting & BILIC
again equalized via a penalty to end the 1º half with a HAT TRICK
& a 3-3 scoreline.
However, Sevilla FC took control in the 2ºhalf & exploited the
terrible Sporting defense to see KANOUTE score Sevilla´s 4th goal
& his second for the night in the 59th min. That was enough & Sevilla
took the 3ºpoints with the victory.
Great match, good win for Sevilla & a lesson for Sporting, who need
to urgently fix their defense as it is a real mess & will give them
future trouble if not urgently solved.
