with a conviencing victory in its opening Group D match against
RUSSIA win a 4-1 scoreline. The man of the match was Valencia
CF player DAVID VILLA who scored a HAT-TRICK.
The game was played under a constant rain with both sides testing
each other out early, with Spain nervous as the Russian made good play
& had chances. The starting Spanish line up was as predicted ( see post
below) & the bet on the Fernando Torres & Villa attack paid dividends
in the 20th min when Villa scored Spain´s first goal thanks to a Torres
incursion & pass.
From then on Spain dominanted with only some small lapses that
allowed the Russians to make incursions without real danger. Then
Villa was back in action in the 44th min with his & Spain´s
second goal.
The 2º half saw more of the same in the sense that Spain were
comfortable & looking under control. So much so, that in the 74th
min Villa got his hat-trick.
The Russian pulled one back from a corner in the 86th min thanks
to PAVLYVCHENKO to give his side some pride, but was quickly
answered by Spaniard CESC FABREGAS who came on & scored
Spain´s 4ºth goal.
Special mentions to Puyol (Brilliant in defense), Senna ( security in
midfield), Xavi ( orchestra leader with great vision & passing),
Torres ( blending into the team nicely & setting up teammates) &
of course, David Villa ( goal area panther!)

Great start that allows the squad & the whole country to dream that
this maybe the year. However, it will important that the team get back
to earth quickly as it´s a long haul & there are many good teams out
there to play that may turn this "sweet dream" into a nightmare. For
now, encouraging & a real optimistic start.
But this also occured in the last World Cup against Ukraine & we all
