EURO 2008: GREECE 1 - SPAIN (B) 2

As predicted SPAIN put out its "B-team" ( substitutes) in tonights
third & last Group D match against GREECE. Spain had already
qualified itself as Group leader & decided to rest its "official" team
for next Sundays Q/Final against Italy, while allowing its "subs" a

chance to play in the tournament. The final result 1 - 2 in Spain´s
favour was a fair result as overall the Spaniards played better.

The strategy of Greece was to attempt to stop Spain from playing
& holding the ball with stop tackles to gain free kicks & allow set up

stop ball situations. They managed to pull it off in the 41th minute
when Greek forward CHARISTEAS surprised the Spanish
defence from a set piece to put Greece ahead. But it was the only
real danger that they showed throughout the rest of the game.

The 2Âșnd half was dominanted by Spain as they regained the
control of the ball & tired their opponents. In the 61st min
DE LA RED (above) fired into the net Spain´s first &
equalizing goal
when Guiza set it up with his placed header.

Then this seasons Spanish League top goalscorer DANI GUIZA
(above) headed the winner from a Sergio Garcia cross in the

88th min. A just result & 3 more points to finish unbeaten in their
group games.

Special mention must go out to XAVI ALONSO who gave an
outstanding performance in the midfield & may have won a place

in the next match starting line-up.
