SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA - ROUND 36/ 2008 MID WEEK GAMES RESULTS

Mid week action as Round 36 got underway today with 9 games -
including the "classic" Real Madrid vs Fc Barcelona clash - with the
last remaining game tomorrow between Espanyol & At.Madrid.
Here is the round-up of tonights games with images & scorers.

MALLORCA defeated OSASUNA 2-1 & put the later in danger of
going to 2º Division, as they are on equal points (40) with Zaragoza
& the currently in trouble & in the relegation position Recreativo.

DANI GUIZA (above) scored again for Mallorca & puts his tally to
25 goals to consolidate his lead over Sevilla forward Luis Fabiano as
the current leading goal scorer in the Spanish League. His team mate
TREGO got the 2º & the winner, while for Osasuna pulled one back
via PORTILLO, but it was´nt enough.

VALENCIA CF grabbed some vital air & won 1-0, with goal by
SILVA (above) , over a dangerously close to relegation REAL
ZARAGOZA that must win their remaining games to have some

hope of avoiding the 2ºDivision. Let´s wish them luck.

VILLAREAL claim officially 2º place of the classification &
automatic Champions League participation next season, after

defeating RECREATIVO away 0-2. This gives them a 7º point
advantage over FC Barcelona, with 6ºpoints still up for grabs.

NIHAT above & G.FRANCO scored the 2º goals for Villareal.

GETAFE needed a win to get out of the 2º Division dangerzone,
& came from behind to win 4-2 over ALMERIA. The later started

well with two goals from CRUSAT & PANOUVIC. Then Getafe

turned it around with 4ºstraight goals with the man in the above

image scoring twice - MANU DE MORAL - along with ALBIN &
GANERO from a penalty

LLORENTE ( above) & GABILONDO gave ATHLETIC DE
BILBAO its 2 goals that allowed them to defeat MURCIA who

only managed its only goal thanks to IVAN ALONSO. Result
1-2.

With Atletico to play tomorrow, SEVILLA FC has taken the 4ºth
Champions place on the table after winning 0-3 RACING, thanks

to the 2ºgoals from FAZIO & an own goal in the last minute from
MORATON. This puts pressure on Atletico to win its game
tomorrow or risk missing the Champions train.

REAL BETIS drew 1-1 against VALLADOLID who equalized thanks

to VICTOR (above). Earlier MARK GONZALEZ put Betis in front.


DEPORTIVO also won its game 1-0 over LEVANTE with goal from
RIKI in the 87th min.

The big classic REAL MADRID vs FC BARCELONA started with

the latter making the traditional "tunnel" in homeage to the League
Champions (as seen above) , to end up losing 4-1 to the Champions

Real Madrid were superior tonight with all the confidence in the
World after gaining the title. They dominated the 1º half with

goals from RAUL ( above) & ROBBEN from a header.

The 2º half saw to substitutes HIGUAIN & VAN NISTELROOY score

the other 2º goals, with Van Nistelrooy´s from a penalty. FC
BARCELONA got back some pride via HENRY who managed to score

a nice goal towards the end; an end that went wrong for Barça when
Xavi got a Red Card.

Long faces at Camp Barça who have lost the 2º place to Villareal &
will lose its coach Rijkaard & some players. Its the beginning of a
mini- revolution.
