yesterdays draw by Real Madrid, we were awaiting to see if Villareal
could get closer to them & it was not the case. Atletico won in a
high scoring match to create a gap for 4th place against Racing who
lost their match & Real Zaragoza go into relegation zone with
their loss. Best get straight into all the other details with the results
& scorers.
SFS was invited this afternoon to attend the ATLETICO DE MADRID
- ALMERIA match, an importnat game for Atletico as they are in a
fierce battle with Racing for the last Champions League position on the
table. Atletico won 6-3 Almeria & grabbed the 3º points, while Racing
in its game lost creating a cushion.
My impressions are the following; Atletico are lucky, & they have a
terrible defence. So many mistakes, so much confusion & no
understanding.They won thanks to the fact that Almeria lost 2ºmen
to red cards, because if they had not, Atletico would have lost & that´s
for sure. Pernia, Pablo, Abbiati, Perea...absolutely terrible. Atletico
really need to fix this serious problem, it is embarrissing to watch !
Atletico started well in the 2ºmin with a foul on Aguero that resulted
in a red card for Almeria (last man), ANTONIO LOPEZ scored
the first goal from a foul. Then 3ºminutes later another Aguero
incursion lead to a penalty that DIEGO FORLAN transformed for
the second goal. From here on with 10 men on the field & 2 goals
behind , Almeria dominanted to make Atletico look helpless, so much
so that they scored from Atletico defensive mistakes twice thanks to
F.MELO ( 10th min) & a cracker from ORTIZ ( 17th min)
SIMAO ( above) was excellent today & managed to get Atletico
back ahead in the 33rd min with a great free kick , but again a
defensive mistake allowed NEGREDO to equalize in the 36th min,
no one could believe want they were seeing. Then in the 39th min
Almeria player Juanito received a red card leaving Almeria
down to 9º men & this was determinante as it created too many
spaces that Atletico exploted, although they were playng terribly.
So much was the holes for Almeria, that SIMAO scored his second
goal, & Altetico´s 4th in the 45th min.
These spaces also allowed SERGIO AGUERO to get in & score
twice, in the 54th min & the 70th min, to secure the 3ºpoints
& receive the just reward for being one of the best on the field.
Big win for Atletico, but the scoreline fools, if Almeria had´nt lost
2º men to red cards, Atletico would have lost, Almeria played a
couragous game against the odds & showed us all football.
LEVANTE lost to a great VALLADOLID today 0-3, with goals
from LLORENTE in the 23rd min, keeping his great run on line,
a cracker from VICTOR ( above & in the 59th min) & lastly but
not least, BORJA with another beauty in the 88th min.
Big day for MARK GONZALEZ of Betis & a nightmare for Zaragoza.
REAL BETIS defeated away REAL ZARAGOZA 0-3 to put the latter
deep into the relegation zone. The player of the day was Mark Gonzalez
(above) who scored twice ( 7th & 15th min) to set his team sailing.
Then teammate Argentine PAVONE sealed the third in the 63rd min.
Big, big troubles at Zaragoza!
ATLETICO DE BILBAO keeps its winning streak with a 1-0
victory over RCD ESPANYOL who are having a terrible run in
the latter part of this season. The only scorer was GARMENDIA
( above) in the 13th min.
Chance for RACING DE SANTANDER to pressure Atletico for
4th place, but they lost to a good DEPORTIVO 1-3. Deportivo
needed the win badly & scored thanks to XISCO ( 1st & 42nd min)
& COLOCCINI ( 24th min). The only goal for Racing came from
JORGE LOPEZ in the 36th min.
Missed chance for Racing that now are behind Atletico by 3º points
Relegation zone team REAL MURCIA put more mud into
VALENCIA CF face with its 1-0 win, thanks to IVAN
ALONSO (above) who scored in the 35th min. This win
allows Murcia to dream about escaping relegation & makes
Valencia´s suffering more intense.
Big clash, important for Villareal to cut Real Madrid´s lead at the top
& important for Sevilla Fc in its fight for the European table positions.
The end result, a great & decisive win by SEVILLA FC 2-0 over
VILLAREAL. LUIS FABIANO (above) scored a brilliant goal in
the 18th min to put his team ahead & take his personal season tally
to 23 goals. Then in the 2ºhalf KANOUTE sentenced with a
converted penalty in the 87th min.
FC BARCELONA drew 0-0 with GETAFE to take 2º spot & share
with Villareal 59 points. The big winner here is Real Madrid who
maintain its 7ºpoint lead over both in the race for the Spanish title.
Getafe is a tough nut to crack, just ask Bayern Munich after their
1-1 draw mid week in the Uefa Cup. Barça tried hard & hit the post
