FC BARCELONA managed to win an important 1º leg game, in
more ways than one, away from home & at a hostile ground
against German side SCHALKE 04 with a scoreline of 0-1. Vital
away goal that will serve to calm the nerves in the 2º leg match
to be played in Barcelona.
Barça played its best football in the 1ºhalf & it scored early in the
12th min thanks to a goalkeeper fumble that gave Barça the ball &
they managed to find a solitary young BOJAN KRKIC on the far post
where he knocked the ball in for the goal (as seen above). Bojan
becomes the 2ºnd youngest player in the Champions, behind Olympiakos
Ghana player Peter Ofori-Quaya, to score in the competition.
The 2ºhalf saw a German onslaught as they tried be all means to get the
equalizer at all costs. It was rough & tough for Barça who stood firm &
defended with all their wits & skills to stop Schalke 04 breaking through.
FC Barcelona goalkeeper VALDES ( above) was outstanding tonight
stopping everything & in particular a 92th min header from Larson
that would have meant the draw. Brilliant & worth a mention as for
the whole defensive Barça block.
Lastly, Barça coach Frank Rijkaard can breathe another day as his
job was on the line tonight.
