the only Spanish representative GETAFE winning tonight at
Lisbon against BENFICA 1-2.
An extraordinary effort by coach Laudrap men, who are a modest
team from the sourthern outskirts of Madrid, working class &
relatively "new" to the 1º Division. Here they are, close to qualifying
for the Q/Final of the Uefa Cup.
The two goals scored for Getafe come from both pictured men,
DE LA RED in the 24th min & PABLO HERNANDEZ in the 67th
min, giving Getafe two powerful away goal advantage to take
home for the 2º leg game.
Benfica were unlucky with a Red Card given to their player CARDOZA
in the 8th min that left them with 10 players & in clear disadvantage.
MANTORRAS managed to pull a goal back in the 76th min that keeps
their chances alive , however slim they many be.

Obviously a great result for Getafe, but I think the bigger picture here is the gap between the Spanish and Portuguese first divisions. Despite Benfica's heritage and second-place standing, it was no match for 10th-place Getafe. How the mighty have fallen.

Good to have you a returning visiter starting11
It's a sad state of affairs when there are only two teams supporting Spain in both European club competitions, at this relatively early stage. And as a Madrid fan, I can't find the strength to actively support Barcelona. So... Aupa Geta!
p.s. And things still look shaky concerning Euro 08, don't they?
Indeed John, Euro 2008, we will to watch closely developments.
Nice to see you in.
Cheers
