CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2008: FC BARCELONA WIN & SEVILLA FC ELIMINATED

The good news is that FC BARCELONA won its match & qualified
for the Q/Finals of CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, while the bad news is that
SEVILLA FC lost in the
penalty shoot out after extra-time & were
eliminated.

FC BARCELONA had a handy 2-3 advantage from Scotland &
managed to defeat again in the 2º leg CELTIC GLASGOW via a
1-0 scoreline. XAVI HERNANDEZ scored early in the 2ºmin to
put Barça in the lead. That solitary goal was enough & the full

both leg score finished 2-4 overall.

However, the worst news to come out of the Barça victory is the injury

to its star player LIONEL MESSI ( pictured above) with a torn
hamstring muscle that will keep him out for at least 1ºmonth. This
injury transcends Champions as it will affect the local competition

battle with Real Madrid in its struggle for top spot of the Liga table.

The other match saw SEVILLA FC win 3-2 after 90 minutes against
Turkish side FENERBAHCE, but due to the 1º leg score of 3-2 to the
Turks advantage the overall finished 5-5 & took the match into extra
time, & later into the penalty shoot out were Sevilla lost out
.

Sevilla started excellently with quick goals from DANI ALVES in
the 4th min & KEITA (pictured above) from long range in the 9th
min.

But defensive lapses from Sevilla allowed the Turks to score via
DEIVID ( above) in the 20th min, with Sevilla scoring the 3ºrd via
KANOUTE in the 40th, but DEIVID scored his teams & his personal
2º goal in the 79th min to equalize the overall scoreline 5-5 that took
the game into extra-time .
The following 30min of extra-time saw Sevilla try hard but the
Turks held out , taking the game into the dreaded penalty
shoot out
stage

Here the heroe for Fenerbahce was their goalkeeper DEMIREL
(above) who stopped the penalties from Escude, Maresca & Dani
Alves to give his side the final victory & qualify his team for the
Q/Finals of the Champions League.

Sad end of the road for Sevilla Fc, however this is sport & congratulations
to Fenerbahce
