I fail to understand how Baptista makes that list over more worthy players such as Raul.
I think Baptista deserves his place over Raul. He has had to work really hard against an in form and popular Guti. I agree Raul has been back on form again and has been performing brilliantly, but to be a bit brutal this is what I expect from Raul.
The one that surprizes me is Pepe - some people must be seeing something in this man that I completely miss - I'm yet to be convinced by him.
Without comparing him to Raul, I have to say I'm fairly shocked at the frequency that Baptista shows up on those lists. He's a great talent, and I rate him highly, but I'm just not sure his contributions, even if solely measuring those in the month of December, warrent near-unanimous inclusion with all of those top XI's. I guess scoring a goal against Barcelona in el gran clasico (and a magnificent one at that) gets you quite a bit of attention. Either that or he's got the best agent in Europe.
As for Pepe: yeah. Whatever. I've been impressed by his defending (once again, his performance against Barcelona most likely explains his inclusion on the lists) but with his glass legs, it's hard to imagine any other clubs chasing after him, to put it mildly.
