SPANISH FOOTBALL NEWS

Two news pieces of worthy mention out of all that is on offer ( including
the boring RAUL & national side debate) from all the local sports media

today.

Firstly, 10 players from the Spanish League ( & a Spaniard based in
England) are in the nominated list for this years "World FIFA Player
of the Year" Award. FC BARCELONA puts into the list an impressive
7 players, & raises the odds that perhaps one of them will be chosen
in Zurich on the 17th of December.

The list of Spanish players/based players are:

Cannavaro & Van Nistelrooy ( Real Madrid)
Fernando Torres ( Liverpool)

Ronaldinho, Messi, Henry, Marquez, Thuram, Deco & Eto´o (Barcelona)
Juan Roman Riquelme ( Villareal)

(Fernando Torres only Spaniard in the list)

The voting will be handed in by all the National side Captain´s & Coaches,
& the favourites are Kaka & Messi.

Second piece of news comes from "Marca" who have splashed it all
over their front page. According to the paper, REAL MADRID has put
as priority Valencia CF forward & Spanish International DAVID VILLA

for next season.
Apparently, Real Madrid wishes to increase the number of national players

in the squad.

SFS would like to advise readers that they should hold their horses & take
the news for what it is, pure speculation. Remember the same paper
published that Chelsea player DROGBA was also the chosen one, & as we
all know, with Van Nistelrooy there is not enough space for all. Stay tuned!

It's a shame that here are more foreign players in la Liga, and there are less Spanish playes nominated...

The David Villa story is unconvincing, last week it was supposed to be Drogba.

Certainly we can't keep relying on Nistelrooy to score in the long term, good as he is. We need someone younger in the pipeline.

Personally, I think it's fine to line up other players to bring in, but as long as the players we have get a chance. Soldado, Higuain, Baptista could both be great strikers with some more exposure - and potentially we have Saviola who hasn't settled yet.

Granted Baptista and Higuain prefer playing in the hole. Also I'm not convinced Higuain will ever be a great goal scorer, he just doesn't seem to have the kill instict.

My hopes are pinned on Soldado for the time being - I hope he stays long enough to get a game and get on the bench.

Meanwhile our priority still needs to be a creative midfielder to cover or replace Guti who for me is still very inconsistent this season
