Alfio Basile, the Argentine National Team coach, has given his list
of players that will defend the nation in the two upcoming World
Cup 2010 qualifying matches. Argentina meets Chile on the 13th
of October & then play Venezuela on the 16th of October, &will
again look to Villareal midfielder RIQUELME to lead the way.
It was a "surprise" to see Riquelme on the list after not having played
a single game in the Spanish League. But his talent & majestic play
are too important for caoch Basile not to have the player included.
The other observation is the amount of Spanish based players that
are on the list, thus giving the national side a certain "Spanish
flavour", as the below list of players indicate:
Abbondanzieri ,Oscar Ustari,Daniel Díaz (Getafe), Heinze
(Real Madrid), G.Milito (FC Barcelona), Coloccini (Deportivo),
Jonás Gutiérrez (Mallorca), Gago (Real Madrid) , Maxi Rodríguez
(At.Madrid),Saviola (Real Madrid) Messi (FC Barcelona)
& Agüero (At.Madrid)
Two outstanding names on the list , apart from Riquelme, are the two
inform players at the moment, Messi & Aguero, an awesome combination
upfront with both players on a goal streak at this moment with their
respective clubs in Spain.
Here is the FULL list of players called up. Basile will name another
5 players next week, which are certain to be local league players.
