REAL MADRID SACK FABIO CAPELLO

FABIO CAPELLO will no longer sit on this seat. REAL MADRID
"Football Director", Pedja Mijatovic, has announced a couple of
hours ago at a packed press conference, that Capello will no longer
be the teams coach.
The decison was made earlier today after a full board meeting was held
which was chaired by President Calderon.

Although Capello steered Real Madrid to its 30th League title, this
season, it was not enough to satisfy fans & media by the style of play
utilized. According to most, winning is not enough, it must include
class play, which was´nt observed all season. Even the fact that players
came out to defend Capello & publically adviced for the coach to continue
was not enough.

Mijatovic finished without announcing the new coach, although its
common knowledge that it will be ( if there are no surprises) GETAFE
coach & ex - Real Madrid player BERND SCHUSTER.

It's farcical. I am at a loss to understand why Calderón cannot see that this is an extremely risky decision that could land him on the street this time next year if it backfires. Continuity would have been the sensible course to follow. Capello managed to unite a disparate set of egos into something resembling a team with spirit and attitude. Schuster (if it is indeed he) will have his work cut out to do anywhere near as well. He may well have what it takes, but he hasn't shown it before...

Calderon and Mijatovic mad a wrong decision. Capello proved what he can do. he should have stayed for atleast opne more season so he could win the UCL. i just hope they get a good coach like Del Bosque or Wenger. Schuster hasnt proved how good he is yet.

This season everybody has critisised Capello at one time or another (including myself). Here is my list:
Playing 2 defensive midfielders, not making use of Cassano or Beckham, buying unproven youngsters for too much money, selling Ronaldo with no backup, playing Robinho and Reyes on the wrong side forcing the team to have no width.........the list goes on.
However, most of these Capello addressed at some point in the season. In the last 6 or 7 games of the seaon i didn't think we played like an italian team at all. Beckham and Cassano had their chances to make a comeback. It sounds as though Ronaldo needed to go mid season since apparently he was having a bad influence in the dressing room, certainly Nistelrooy didn't really settle until Ronaldo left. I'm hoping we will see Robinho on the right next season.

Cappello's real ability seems to have been to manage team spirit - he is obviously very tuned into the different characters of the players.

Whilst I don't expect that Capello is bitter since he will surely get a massive payoff, this kind of move damages Real's reputation across the world and unltimately will put off player and managers alike from signing with the team.

It's a shame we have such a weak president and director who will bow to the masses of fans in order to attempt to preserve their delicate positions.

One day Raul will be director of football and all will be well. Until then we have to put up with these jokers.

One other thing - I feel compelled to mention the signings we are linked with...
"Their targets include Cesc Fabregas, Gabriele Heinze and Carlos Tevez, who is no longer wanted by Inter Milan, according to the Italian side's president Massimo Moratti. "

First off Tevez annoyed me the other day by coming out and saying he would much rather play for Inter than for Real - stupid thing to say if the above quote is true. But futhermore, what about Saviola? Is there something I don't know about this player that puts everyone off? His abilities are equal to Tevez and he has a better goal scoring record and he's probably going very cheaply.
I can imagine he would love to score against Barca.

Any opinions on this? Surely people agree Saviola would be a better option over Tevez.

SFS likes Saviola, unfortanately SFS does make the signnings.

Thanks guys for a wonderful debate..shows that you all love the game deeply.

Very much agree with all said. Glad Evo brought up signings, because while the rest of Europe has already reconfigured with new players and made needed adjustments, the whole Capello fiasco (I'm assuming) has kept Madrid from aqcuiring ANY new talent, while Carlos, Beckham, Salgado and (hopefully) Emerson are out the door. Now here we are and we STILL don't even have a COACH!! We have missed the boat on some serious talent that is much needed to fill the gaps, including the likes of Robben and Ribery, Torres and Forlan (because Ruud can't carry the striking weight on his own, Pichichi or not) and countless others. Surely they will blow it with Milito, they will NOT get Kaka, I HOPE they get Tevez, but I'm skeptical - but first they need a coach!! Schusters not a lock because Getafe won't let him go that easily. I'm sorry - but I needed to vent. All this does not bode well for next season.
