SPANISH HANDBALL | AT MADRID 33 FC BARCELONA 26 | SPANISH SUPER CUP FINAL

ATLETICO DE MADRID has won its first title this season, not the Football Club, but its "newly" acquired HANDBALL Team. Atletico de Madrid defeated the powerful FC BARCELONA 33 - 26 to take the SPANISH HANDBALL SUPERCUP which traditionally signals the start of the new season.

For those who may not know, Spanish Handball Club CIUDAD REAL went through financial problems at the end of last season which put them on the verge of disappearing. The solution was to have Spanish Football Club ATLETICO DE MADRID buy the Club & move them to Madrid, something of a "flashback" as Atletico dropped their Handball Team 19 years back. But the decision to get back into Handball was proven yesterday to have been a total success with a record attendence for a Handball game in Spain. Observers noticed a sea of Atletico shirts & fans who have incorporated Handball into their Sporting "life" along with Football.

The Atletico Handball Team did not disappoint fans & won the strong Barça side in a convincing fashion. A great start for Atletico as the regular Spanish Handball League (ASOBAL) kicks off next week & they look in great shape in continuing to give joys to their "new" fans.
