SPANISH FOOTBALL has "officially" finished for season 2010 - 2011 with the final match of  the 2º Division promotion games decided tonight & awarding the final third promotion place to Granada, along with already promoted Real Betis & Rayo Vallecano, to the Spanish League - La Liga.

The 1º leg finished GRANADA 0 - ELCHE 0 & tonight the 2º leg final result finished in a controversial ELCHE 1 - GRANADA 1, which puts GRANADA into the Spanish 1º Division League for next season due to the away goal advantage.

Ighalo scores for Granada

Granada got ahead via IGHALO with a fabulous goal in the 21st min that set the visitors on course. The game  was tense & very tough as both sides were playing for a final Spanish First Division place. Then in the 37th min Elche player Pelegrin had his equalizing goal disallowed for off-side. The below image contradicts the decision as Pelegrini who made the header was clearly on-side. This "decision" was to be a determining factor later in the match.

Elche goal disallowed for "off-side"

The match continued in a see-saw fashion with Elche desperate to gain back the advantage & attempt to turn things around. They managed the equalizer in the 80th min via XUMENTRA that lifted hopes for the home team as they were on a roll. However, Granada held on with tooth & nails & managed to keep out Elche to see the match finish in a draw & see how their away goal gave them a Spanish First Division birth for next season. Elche obviously remembered the first half disallowed goal & were naturally devasted after the final whistle.

Granada join Real Betis & Rayo Vallecano as new LIGA Clubs for season 2010 - 2011.
