Atletico de Madrid in "dire straits"/source:efe

The above picture says it all, ATLETICO DE MADRID lost 1 - 2 against VALENCIA CF to extend their run of loses, open up further the doubts over Coach Quique Sanchez & speed up the velocity of the Clubs "noise-dive" into their particular "crisis".

Atletico started well & gave rise to optimism when JOSE ANTONIO REYES scored a great goal in the 3rd min. The home side created chances & things were going along positively until Valencia player JOAQUIN equalized in the 41st min with "another" defensive mistake included. This changed the balance a bit as Atletico looked like they saw "ghosts from the past" & their game deteriorated.

The half -time coaches talk must have done its motivating work on Atletico as they again looked good &were rewarded when they won a penalty in the 57th min. However, DIEGO FORLAN missed & hit the post which mentally sank the Atletico side & Valencia decided to attack more as they saw signs of "blood". Valencia got the winner via JOAQUIN again in the 89th min doing the damage on Atletico who lost a minute later defender Godin with a red card.

Bad end for Atletico to what was a great start,  & Valencia keep up their extraordinary string of wins. For the moment , no one from the Atletico Club ( Directives ) have put the job of Coach Quique Sanchez in doubt...for the moment!

Sporting Barral scores against FC Barcelona

Surprise result at Gijon with REAL SPORTING DE GIJON drawing 1 -1 with FC BARCELONA. Good news for Real Madrid because if they can win Espanyol tomorrow they will close the gap between themselves & Barça from 7 to 5 points.

Sporting was simply magnificent tonight & was revved up against a Barcelona team that seemed to have its head thinking in the Champions League match against Arsenal next week. Sporting got ahead with a fantastic goal from DAVID BARRAL in the 16th min & managed to stand their ground nicely against Barça all the 45 mins.

Barça Coach Guardiola was not impressed & changed Afellay for Pedro in the second half & gave his players orders to "fix things" as some as possible. The task was not easy for Barça &they went through plenty of "sticky" & stiff moments as Sporting was gaining in strength & confidence.

But you cannot drop your guard for one moment against Barça & in the 71st min DAVID VILLA ( ex-Sporting) chipped beautifully into the net to equalize & draw a sigh of relief from all the Barcelona team.  After this,  Sporting seemed content with the draw result & made sure to secure the scoreline.

Racing win a cliff-hanger

RACING DE SANTANDER with new Indian multi-millionaire owner & new Coach Marcelino won the best of tonights scheduled matches defeating 3 - 2 SEVILLA FC with just 10 men in a real cliff-hanger.

The first half was Racing all the way with goals from CHRISTIAN in the 12th min,  a penalty
saved from Negredo by Racing goalie Toño &then a second from an own goal from Sevilla player RAKITIC in the 19th min. All fine up till  Santander hero Christian turned foe with a red card in the 37th min that left Racing with 10 men. The balance of the game changed & Sevilla FC took over proceedings. Sevilla player FAZIO score in the 39th min to send a clear signal that things were about to change.

The second half Sevilla went all out & created many chances as Racing just defended. A penalty was awarded to Sevilla in the 83rd min & LUIS FABIANO equalized. Then in the 91st min & against play, Racing hammered the ball upfront that found ARANA who chipped over a helpless Palop to score the winner. It was a miracle come back with 10 men & struggling to keep out Sevilla FC. The goal took to roof off the stadium as it exploded with joy & Sevilla were left standing in disbelief.
