Real Madrid young French defender Raphael Varane will be the novelty from Real Madrid tonight. Coach
Carlo Ancelotti announced yesterday that the Frenchman would be in tonight’s
starting XI team in the 2ยบ leg semi-final of the Spanish Cup against Atletico de
Madrid. Varane returns after a three months absence, the most part nursing a
knee which inflamed itself after his last intensive games. Another operation was discarded
after being operated last May of 2013 & instead the treatment this time was tender
loving care & patience.
Coach Ancelotti
knows that giving Varane playing time tonight allows him to rest one of his "heavyweight"
Central Defenders- Pepe or Ramos - both currently a yellow card away from
missing a possible Copa Del Rey Final. The French defender last match was on
the 9th of November 2013, previously Rafael Varane did all he could to play for France in the the World Cup qualifiers play-offs & secure a ticket to the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.
Since the
start of this season, Varane could only string together one or two straight
matches. His knee became inflamed & he was forced to halt his progression. With
Real Madrid he has barely played six games, so everyone opted to pursue a longer term
programme of knee treatment in order to return with full guarantees .Tonight’s test
at the "Vicente Calderon Stadium" will be very important for Varane
to gauge the state of his trouble & annoying knee.
For Real Madrid Coach Ancelotti
the return of the French defender is very important. The response of the veterans’
defenders, Pepe and Ramos, has been very good, but Ancelotti believes Varane
has plenty of arguments to win a permanent place in the side as Mourinho showed
last season.
The
objective is to allow Varane to gather playing time in the second half of the season.
Ahead there are important games for Real Madrid: the Liga battle for the title, the UEFA
Champions League play-offs, a possible Spanish Cup final & at the end of the
season a possible appointment in Brazil with the French national
Team. Although Rafael Varane is currently not a permanent starting player, if his knee
responds well Coach Ancelotti plans to call him up for the the important
encounters. It could well be a big final part of the season for Varane, who
hopes that this treatment has cleared all doubts & his ordeal has ended. I
hope so to, as Varane is possibly the most talented defender with most projection
in World Football to have arrived in the last 10 years.
