Levante hosted Athletic Club Bilbao & lost 0 - 2 sinking them further in trouble in the Liga classification table. Deserved victory for Athletic with a grand Aduriz upfront scoring both of his teams goals, first in the 48th min & second in the 90th min.
First victory at home this season for Almeria after defeating Madrid Club Getafe 1 - 0. Heated encounter with a red card going to both sides: Escudero for Getafe & Hamed for Almeria. The winner for Almeria came through Mendez in the 43rd min.
Repeat of the mid-week Spanish Cup quarter-finals clash were Espanyol eliminated Sevilla FC. Tonight Sevilla FC had its chance of "revenge" in Liga against RCD Espanyol. Great match & very intense with Sevilla failing to sentence the game early allowing Espanyol to make a comeback & equalize with only 10 men, but with a climactic positive end for Sevilla.
Espanyol got ahead first with Stuani scoring in the 15 min through a penalty. However Sevilla FC reacted quickly with goals from Diogo in the 26th min & Vitolo in the 35th min. Then disaster for Espanyol when goalie Kiko Casillas received a red card when handling the ball outside his area in the 41 st min. With Espanyol down with 10 men Sevilla dominated but failed to convert their many goal opportunities. This lifted Espanyol which managed the equalizer in the 78th min through Victor Sanchez.
However the best was yet to come. In the 90th min Bacca found Aspas who scored for Sevilla the winner & in doing so, blowing the roof of the stands. Dramatic & heroic stuff.
Final result 3 - 2 draw.
FC Barcelona suffered & was pushed for their worked 3 - 2 win over Villarreal. Good team Villarreal which was not buckled by Barça at their home ground & put in a great offensive strategy which included dangerous counter-attacks. In the end the quality & experience of the Barça players managed to steer the match towards their favour. But Villarreal deserved more & perhaps a drawn result may have been more just. Overall entertaining Football.
