The Spanish League - Liga - goes down to the wire after Round 37 celebrated all its games tonight with FC Barcelona & Real Madrid winning & thus continuing with their particular tussle for the title with the last 5 bottom placed teams future in 1º Division "up in the air" to be settled in the last Round next week.
FC BARCELONA kept its cool & won 2-3 away to SEVILLA FC, with the latter putting in a late scare in the body of Barça & with 10 men, after Sevilla FC lost Konko early in the 2º half for double yellow card. FC Barcelona stamped its authority early with the 32ºnd Liga goal for LIONEL MESSI in the 5th min, which was followed with a second in the 28th min thanks to BOJAN & then the third in the 62nd by PEDRO. However, Sevilla started in the 68th min via LUIS FABIANO´s goal a "come-back attempt" that caught momentum when KANOUTE scored Sevilla´s second goal in the 71st min. But FC Barcelona held out & took away the 3ºpoints.Now Barça is in the driving seat to proclaim themselves Spanish League Champions next week (Round 38) with the last game of the season when they meet Valladolid in their home ground. The only problem that could exist is that Valladolid will be playing for their lives in an attempt to stay in the 1º Division & this could cause a surprise if Barça go into this game "relaxed".
REAL MADRID did their job winning 5-1 ATHLETIC DE BILBAO in a difficult game, with scare included when YESTE scored to equalize in the 4oth min , with just 10 men after Amorabieta received a red card for hand-ball in the goal area. But FC Barcelona didn´t lose their game at Sevilla & thus Real must win next week Malaga & see if Valladolid can surprise Barcelona in their game.Real Madrid got ahead with a penalty in the 21st min that CRISTIANO RONALDO scored, followed by HIGUAIN in the 72nd min, SERGIO RAMOS in the 79th , BENZEMA in the 81st & MARCELO in the 88th min. As you can see the bulk of the Madrid goals came mid 2º half with Bilbao tired from their 1º half effort.
The Spanish League title is not in the hands of Real Madrid.
TENERIFE drew in the 93rd min via NINO 2-2 with ALMERIA to keep the slimmest chance open to survive in the 1º Division. Earlier BELTRAN put Tenerife ahead in the 14th min but were answered with goals from PIATTI in the 17th min & CRUSAT in the 80th min to keep Almeria safe in the elite division.
VILLAREAL defeated an undermanned VALENCIA CF 2-0, with the latter having already the 3ºrd table & Champions League position safely in their bag. The goals came in the 10th min via ROSSI & LLORENTE in the 18th min.
GETAFE won 2-1 MALAGA & are serious European position contenders with goals from SOLDADO in the 26th min & PEDRO LEON in the 56th min. Malaga managed a consolation goal via FERNANDO in the 91st min but it was not enough. They now face a very complicated situation & certain relegation as they need to beat Real Madrid next week, which will be difficult ( but not impossible).
DEPORTIVO finally won after nearly 3 months at the expense of MALLORCA who are fighting for the 4th table & Champions League place with Sevilla. The winning goal came from RIKI in the 68th min.
VALLADOLID won 2-1 RACING to put the latter in a terrible position for next week. Neither are out of danger but Valladolid needed to win today or else they were in the 2º Division. Goals from BARAJAS in the 56th min & NUAZET in the 78th min (p) got them through & the 3 points. Racing scored via CHRISTIAN in the 28th min but their loss complicates their classification & they must win next week or "die".
XEREZ who are last placed won 3-2 ZARAGOZA & keep alive a miracle of avoiding the 2º Division if they win next week & the above teams all lose. Xerez goals came from FRANCIS, MICHEL & CALVO, while HERRERA & GABI scored for Zaragoza. Difficult to see Xerez saving themselves, too much to ask & see happen.
RCD ESPANYOL with goals from FORLIN & OSVALDO took the points grom OSASUNA with their only goal from VADOCZ. Final score 2-1 Tweet
