Congratulations to SEVILLA FC for their 0-2 victory over ATLETICO DE MADRID in the Final of the 2009-2010 SPANISH CUP in a packed "Camp Nou" Stadium in Barcelona with 90.000 screaming & excited fans.
Sevilla FC went out attacking hard early & it paid off in the 5th min when a deviated ball allowed Sevilla winger CAPEL (above) to fire an unstoppable shot that found the back of the net. This early set-back put Atletico behind the eight-ball & they knew from here that some hard work had to be done. Atletico did not go into their shell & began to slowly get total control of the game craeting goal opportunities that did not give their fruits.This was the key, as the old Football - Soccer "Golden Rule" came true again: if you dont take your chances you will eventually pay for it. Sevilla veteran Goalkeeper PALOP had something to do with keeping Atletico at bay with some important saves that would turn out later to be vital.
Atletico came out with all guns in the second half , with Jurado & Raul Garcia coming on for Assuncao & Simao to give them a more offensive profile. The Madrid team dominanted - with a scare that young Atletico goalie DE GEA solved from a Negredo sitter missed & well stopped - to see how Atletico put Sevilla on the defensive, but the ball just would not go in the Sevilla net at all. Sevilla resorted to some time wasting tactics ( all fair in love & war ) that included a sideline all-in tussle that took up 5 minutes, but Atletico paided for their over zealous attempt to find an equalizer late in the game. In a speedy counter-attack, after Atletico defender Perea lost the ball in midfield, the best player for Sevilla all night JESUS NAVAS got the ball & took it up to the goal to score the "killer" that secured his team the Spanish Cup in the 93rd min.
Atletico de Madrid can be proud of their effort tonight, they were unlucky & gave a great image backed by a fantastic 50,000 + fans that cheered them on after the final whistle blew. Who would have even imagined 5 months back that Atletico would win the Europa League & be in the Final of the Spanish Cup; a remarkable mid-season come back that all Atletico fans are proud to have witnessed.Sevilla FC, well played & as said at the start, congratulations as Spanish Football - Soccer also won tonight.
