SPANISH FOOTBALL NEWS QUICKIES

Not much new NEWS today, except that "La Liga" has a mid -week
fixture tonight & tomorrow ( Round 10), Thierry Henry comments
on his poor form ( he must adapt to Barça & not Barça for him ) & the
2 following pieces picked out by SFS.

After Fabio Capello & Mourinho said no to the Valencia CF coaching
position, Valencia is speaking with ex-Barcelona star & current PSV
EINDOVEEN coach ROLAND KOEMAN. The only hurdle is the
payment Valencia would have to make for Koeman to break his coaching
contract with his current club. Stay tuned!

NEWS FLASH - Marca has just confirmed that KOEMAN has accepted
the position & will be Valencia CF new coach - 16.00

Staying with Dutchmen, young ROYSTEN DRENTHE is´nt having
things go his way lately at REAL MADRID. The youngster came as
a star signning & after playing the first few games, now sees himself
on the margin & has´nt been called up for the squad for tonights
Valencia clash. This has caused the youngman to burst out in anger
& show his frustration with his coach Schuster.

Just a few points for Drenthe - (a)Real Madrid is not Feyenoord ( with
all my respects for the Dutch team) & only the best & inform players
get a run, so keep working (b) its a team, so think like a team player
(c) your young, so use this time to learn & (d) patience, its a very long
season with lots of games & your chance will come.

REAL MADRID NEWS: BRENO A NAME TO KEEP AN EYE ON

Spanish daily "Marca" has a reputation for going out on a limb with
its predictions or news scoops. Here is the latest in the transfer
area or new talent catagory. The paper claims that
REAL MADRID
has set its eyes on & wishes to incorporate young 18 year old &
Brazilian sub - 20 International BRENO ( pictured), current player

with Brazilian team SAO PAOLO

The young central defender has a price, 15M€ & his club will not
hear about selling until the 30th of June of 2008.
Real Madrid has rivals for the services of the young man in
BAYERN
MUNICH
& FIORENTINA. Lets take note, & SFS will keep an eye
out on developments.

VALENCIA CF: LOOKING FOR THEIR "SAVIOUR"

VALENCIA CF wishes a coach with prestige, according the Valencia´s
Football Director, Miguel Angel Ruiz ( elmundo.es). How´s that for a
message, Quique Sanchez Flores ( just fired) obviously did not make
the grade, & the new "care taking" coach Oscar Fernandez has been
already been baptised & branded.
While most of Europe look for & hire Spanish coaches ( they do have
prestige outside of Spain) like Benitez ( Liverpool) , Juande
(Tottenham), Ferrer (AEK Athens)...etc, locally as Valencia, most teams
put their hopes on "outsiders" with prestige! This is a typical Spanish
(or Latin) cultural characteristic, were the foreign is seen as bigger &
better than what is equally avaliable at home.

According to "Marca" these are the 6 names being managed to take
over the Valencia bench, as you can see only one locally born & raised
coach ( Del Bosque). The list is:

Fabio Capello, Vicente Del Bosque, Felipe Scolari, Mourinho,
Lippi o Deschamps.

Some on the list, have huge economic pretensions, others are taking a sabatic
rest & the rest have other team duties. Who do you think will wish to take the
challenge? Will he be the true messiah, the savoiur of Valencia?

ATLETICO DE MADRID NEWS: MISTA ON THE MARKET THIS "WINTER"

MISTA came as a valuable asset from VALENCIA CF to
ATLETICO DE MADRID, his current club. However, he has´nt

been able to shine as he did in his former club at the level that
gave him access to the Spanish National side shirt. Mista has only

played 2 official games this season.

Spanish daily "Marca" inform that Atletico will put Mista on
the "Winter Transfer Market", & it is possible that he will
return to his home region & the club REAL MURCIA. Although
other clubs could manifest their interest as well.
What´s clear is that Mista & Atletico are set to part company.

VALENCIA CF NEWS: COACH QUIQUE SANCHEZ FLORES SACKED

VALENCIA CF coach QUIQUE SANCHEZ FLORES was the main
victim of Valencia´s defeat 3-0 away to Sevilla yesterday night.
The club President called an emergency meeting with his directives

after the game to study the situation & decided to "sack" Flores around
04.00 am this morning.

It had been on the cards for a while, as Flores was making more

enemy´s than friends lately at the club.
The new coach will be Oscar Fernandez, current coach of Valencia´s

other side in the 3º Division.

SFS suspects that Valencia will begin to search the market for a coach
to take the reigns of the club. Stay tuned!

SPANISH FOOTBALL - VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS OF REAL MADRID - DEPORTIVO, BARCELONA - ALMERIA & SEVILLA - VALENCIA (ROUND 9/ 2007)

Missed the action & goals of yesterdays main Round 9 games of
"La Liga"? See the VIDEO highlights with the goals of the Real
Madrid - Deportivo, Fc Barcelona - Almeria & Sevilla Fc - Valencia
CF games.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA - ROUND9/2007 SUNDAY RESULTS

Here are the images & results of games played today as part of Round
9
of the Spanish 1º Division League, also known as "La Liga".

REAL MADRID hosted DEPORTIVO & managed to break the
shackles, as is custom lately, in the last 15 mins & finish winning the
match 3-1 to retain the league leader tag
.
Deportivo shocked early with a goal in the very 1ºst min thanks to
XISCO ( seen above celebrating), but Real reacted 6mins later &
was awarded a penalty after a challenge on
VAN NISTELROOY
(seen below) who also converted it into goal.

The game was in a stalemate, until GUTI took control of the midfield &
RAUL came on to attempt to lift the forward line. Two elements that
changed the game, as Guti gave 2 majestic passes to RAUL who scored
in the 78th min, & to ROBINHO who pounced to score the 3rd in the
89th min.
Once again the individual skills out did the group/team effort, a balance
that still needs to be corrected.

Great game at OSASUNA who drew in the last quarter of the game
2-2 against VALLADOLID. The latter started well & scored in the 35th
min thanks to RUBIO which was followed with a 2º goal by SESMA
(pictured above celebrating).
Osasuna was heading for defeat when DADY turned around & saved
his team with 2º quick goals in the 73th & 78th min.

MURCIA won RECREATIVO with the solitario goal from REGUEIRO
in the 46th min with his header. Valuable 3º points for Murcia.

RACING won 2 - 0 GETAFE & managed to grab the valuable 3 points
& sink further Getafe who are not going as well as expected in the local
competition. Maybe they are concentrating too much on Uefa.
SERRANO ( pictured above) opened the scoring for Racing in the 39th
min & JORGE LOPEZ sealed the victory in the 74th minwith an excellent
.
Getafe were disallowed a goal for off -side during the game.

REAL ZARAGOZA got back into winning form & put VILLAREAL
back on the ground with an excellent 4-1 victory.
OLIVEIRA scored first in the 36th min with a header, followed by
OSCAR in the 49th, DIEGO MILITO with a penalty in the 66th &
SERGIO GARCIA in the 78th.
For Villareal PIRES pulled back their only goal in the 81st min

ATLETICO DE MADRID travelled to LEVANTE & suffered to win
a match that will surely count at the end of the season. The only goal
came from DIEGO FORLAN in the 26th min & gave the team 3º
points, & that
is the objective to keep in mind.

FC BARCELONA
won ALMERIA 2-0 in a game were Barça passed
unexpected resistance & controversy with a claimed penalty not given
to Almeria.
It was not until the 37th min that HENRY manage to score Barça´s
1º goal. From there the local side was´nt able to sentence the game
until Barça was awarded a controversial penalty for fouling Giovanni
that was doubtful
for the normal angles . The penalty was scored by
MESSI (as pictured below) & that took the
fight out of Almeria.

SEVILLA FC
played VALENCIA CF under new coach MANOLO
JIMENEZ ( ex player of Sevilla ) & defeated a "worrying" Valencia
3-0.

KANOUTE ( pictured celebrating ) started things rolling with an early
9th min goal. The game got "rough" & very competitive with yellow cards
being handed to both side. Then Sevilla Danish International POULSEN
scored his team 2º goal in the 74th min, followed by the nail in the coffin
by FABIANO with his goal in the 85th min.

Valencia fans & directives may begin to further question its coach Sanchez
Flores. There is a rumour that Mourinho may have offered his services.

SPANISH FOOTBALL - LA LIGA - ROUND 9/2007 SATURDAY GAMES RESULTS

Two games played tonight in Round 9 of "La Liga" with identical
results for both games.

ATLETIC DE BILBAO have yet to win at home after drawing
tonight with REAL BETIS 0 -0 in what was a boring game. So
much so, that SFS will only say this & nothing more.

MALLORCA played ESPANYOL & it ended in a 2-2 draw.
Mallorca started well via ARANGO with his goal in the 2ºmin,
& later he scored an own goal in the 20th min.
TAMUDO ( pictured above) then took his team into the lead
with a 2º goal 5 mins later.

Then in the 65th min GUIZA ( pictured above) saved Mallorca
from defeat with the 2º & equalizing goal for Mallorca.
A just result for both teams, who each lost a player to Red Cards
as well.

RIQUELME A STAR IN A BLACK HOLE

Hows this for an unsual situation. Imagine your a World Football
star, an Argentine International considered one of best & decisive

in every game, its more, your presence wins titles, like in the case of
Boca Juniors. To add more to the prestigue your voted constantly
by experts as amongst the best in the world, as in France Football
"Golden Ball" candidate & FIFA World Players voting.
Your name is JUAN ROMAN RIQUELME & you cannot get a
game in your club VILLAREAL, your a star trapped in a black hole.

Riquelme has a year & a half of contract still left at Villareal, he trains
daily with his team & gets paid his salary as agreed, but is never called
up to play for his side.
A fierce arguement with his coach Pellegrini has banished Riquelme to
exile. The team is doing very well without him & it looks like he will
never play with the yellow canary shirt again.
Many clubs are interested in the Argentine, like Atletico de Madrid
(who almost bought him, but stopped the operation which says
something), Manchester City, Boca Juniors, Fluminense...etc.
What halts the operations?
The high transfer price, his high salary ( out of reach for most) &
a personality that is contagious & infectious for the whole team
in a negative & destructive manner (said by others or those interested
in justifying the situation, eg his current coach & club sources)
The player is hoping that when the "Winter transfer market" opens

on the 1 of January 2008 he situation will change & that he can
go elsewhere to play his football. Lets hope so, SFS would like to see
this star
escape the gravitational force of his current club, & of his
conflictive personality, & return to shine again in the universe of
Football.

TOTTENHAM MAKES AN OFFER THAT SEVILLA FC COACH CANNOT REFUSE

Its the big news of tonight. Local newspapers have picked up the
scoop that SEVILLA FC coach JUANDE RAMOS ( pictured) maybe

on the verge of accepting the coaching job of English Premier League
club TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS
The English club has been playing the flute for a while at Juande,
but their patience ended after Tottenham´s defeat in the
hands of Spanish side Getafe in Uefa, which prompted a HUGE
offer by Tottenham of a 4 year contract
with a staggering 7M€/season
salary. This would make Juande the best paid coach in the world at
this moment, an offer difficult to refuse.

It sounded as a rumour, until Sevilla president Del Nido has just
announced that the club will not put obstacules & that the departure
of Juande is a real possibility. Add to this the news that Juande is in
the Sevilla offices negotiating his contract termination, & it looks
like Tottenham will have a new coach in days.

Juande Ramos is Sevilla FC most successful coach ever, winning
back to back Uefa Cups, European SuperCup, Spanish Cup & taking
Sevilla into the elite part of the local league & Champions League
Competition.
More news will come out in the next hours,& SFS will keep you updated
on the developments.

LATEST NEWS : CONFIRMED , Juande will be the new coach of
Tottenham. He ended his agreement with Sevilla FC late last night.

AC MILAN SEES RONALDINHO AS ITS "SAVIOUR"?

Lastest news from the local sports press ( "Marca" & "Mundo Deportivo")
is that AC MILAN is preparing a 60M€ transfer offer for FC
BARCELONA
& Brazilian star RONALDINHO.

AC Milan is having a bad start to the season & looks towards
Ronaldinho as the "saviour", & the player needed to revitalise
the team. The "Winter Transfer" market opens on the 1st of
January 2008 & AC Milan is said to be waiting to put the cash on
Barça´s table. Stay tuned!

IKER CASILLAS STOPS OLYMPIAKOS

SFS succumbs to the overwhelming emails asking for the VIDEO of IKER
CASILLAS
save in the mid week Real Madrid - Olympiakos Champions
League game. It is just another example that Casillas
is amongst the Top
keepers in the world.

SFS thanks regular reader EVO!

REAL MADRID NEWS: KARIM BENZEMA ON THE AGENDA

Spanish daily "Marca" have come out today with the news scoop.
They claim that REAL MADRID has set its sights on
OLYMPIQUE
DE LYON
19 year old forward KARIM BENZEMA ( pictured below)
for next season. With Van Nistelrooy & Raul in their 30s, the club is
thinking in the future & in an injection of youth up front.

It seems Real Madrid has "forgetten" about Chelsea forward
Drogba ( due to his age of 30 years) & wishes the younger &
upcoming French International.

Real also is said to be working on DAVID VILLA. Stay tuned folks!

UEFA CUP: LOKOMOTIV - ATLETICO DE MADRID VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS 2007

Here is the VIDEO highlight of yesterdays LOKOMOTIV MOSCOW
& ATLETICO DE MADRID Uefa Cup match. Pay attention to the
AGUERO goals, specially the last game "saving" chip over the
goalkeeper. The match finished in a 3-3 draw.

UEFA CUP 2007. ATLETICO SAVES THE DAY ALONG WITH VILLAREAL & GETAFE SHINES

The 3º Spanish representatives in the UEFA Cup played their
respective group games tonight with draw results for Atletico
& Villareal, & a brilliant win for Getafe.

ATLETICO DE MADRID
played LOKOMOTIV OF MOSCOW
in their Group B game were the result ended in a 3-3 draw.

Atletico began magnificently with the opening goal in the 15th min
thanks to Argentine AGUERO. However, Lokomotiv equalized in the
26th min with a goal from BILYALETDINOV.
This looked like a minor hiccup as DIEGO FORLAN scored Atletico´s
2º goal in the 46th min. It seemed Atletico was controlling the game until 2º
mistakes in a row lead to ODEMWINGLE ( pictured above) scoring 2º
quick goals in the 60th & 62th min to take his team into the lead.
It looked like the Spaniards would be heading for defeat until
AGUERO
grabbed a pass from Maniche & "chipped" the ball into the net. Brilliant,
& match saving goal. Great game!

VILLAREAL
drew its Group C match against Italians FLORENTINA
with a 1-1 scoreline. The goals came from VIERI in the 49th min
for the Italians , & CAPDEVILA with a header from a Rossi free-
kick in the 82th min. Just result!

Great game & excellent result from GETAFE , the theoretically more
modest Spanish team who defeated English side
TOTTENHAM 1-2.
The English side took the lead in the 18th min via DEFOE, however
Getafe did not shrink & DE LA RED ( pictured) equalized in the 21st
min.
It was then a real battle for control, until Getafe player BRAULIO
scored the 2º & winning goal in the 69th min, with the Spanairds then
holding out to take the victory. Great start to their Group G games with
3 valuable points.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2007: VIDEO HIGHLIGHT OF REAL MADRID 4 - OLYMPIKOS 2

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE:REAL MADRID 4-OLYMPIAKOS 2 & ROSENBORG 2-VALENCIA CF 0

VALENCIA CF & REAL MADRID played their respective group
games tonight in the 2º night of the Champions League, with mixed
results.

Valencia CF played Rosenborg away at a ground the proved to
be a "nightmare". So much so, that the wind was knocked out
of the Valencia sail by Rosenborg who won 2-0.
A serious set back for the Spaniards who now have to secure that they
win their remaining Group games, as they face the uncertainty of
not qualifying for the next round.
Rosenborg sank the Valencia ship in a matter of just 8 mins, with
goals from KONE in the 52th min & RISETH in the 60th.

Real Madrid faced Greek side Olympiakos to see who can breakaway
as leaders of their Group. Real Madrid started fantastically with a goal
from RAUL in the 2nd min. However, the mental lapses that have been
haunting Real returned & just 5 mins later GALLETI scored for the
Greeks ( Galleti pictured below celebrating his goal).

Then in the 12th min Greek player TOROSIDIS received the RED
CARD
& left Olympiakos with 10 men. You may think that this was

the advantage that Real needed to "kill the game". Wrong!
Here began the drop in play from the Spaniards , confusing most as

they were playing worst then ever. Olympiakos player Djordjevic
was running riot & threatening constantly Real Madrid, until the
Greeks took the lead with a header from JULIO CESAR in the 46th
min. The crowd was stunned & could not believe what they were

seeing with the Greeks down with 10 men.

It looked like we were in for a surprise result , when ROBINHO
decided to put on a one man show. In the 67th min the Brazilian
drew the game with a clever in the area goal. He continued

"dancing" & "bicycling" until he put Real Madrid in front in the
82th min bringing the house down. However, the show continued

until a Robinho pass gave substitute BALBOA the chance to score
Real Madrid´s final & 4th goal in the 92th min.

A complete turn around. Real Madrid take the top spot in their
Group & are on the way to qualify for the next stage.
Final
score 4 - 2.

Will Robinho go out tonight & celebrate?

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PREVIEW: VALENCIA CF & REAL MADRID

Spain´s other two representatives in Champions League, VALENCIA
CF
& REAL MADRID play their respective Group B & C games
tonight.

Valencia travel to Rosenburg & with their "main gunner"
upfront David Villa out with injury. Valencia is "fighting"
with German side Schalke 04 for the valuable 2º position
& need win tonight to stay in touch.

Possible line-ups
:
Rosenborg: Hirschfeld, Strand, Koppinen o Basma, Riseth, Dorsin,
Sapara, Tettey, Skjelbred, Iversen, Koné & Traoré
Valencia: Cañizares, Miguel, Albiol, Marchena, Moretti, Joaquín,
Albelda, Baraja, Angulo, Silva & Morientes

Real Madrid play Greek team Olympiakos in Group C. The
Spaniards desire to win & "escape" into the lead. Argentine
GAGO comes into the line-up in place of the injuried Diarra
& Robinho may make his re-appereance after arriving late
from his Brazil trip.

Possible line-ups
:
Real Madrid: Casillas; Salgado, Sergio Ramos, Metzelder, Marcelo;
Higuaín or Robinho, Gago, Guti, Sneijder; Raúl & Van Nistelrooy.
Olympiacos: Nikopolidis; Patsatzoglou, Antzas, Raúl Bravo, Domi;
Galleti, Torosidis, Ledesma, Stoltidis, Djordjevic; Lua Lua or Kovacevic.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS OF SEVILLA FC - STEAUA

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2007. SEVILLA 2 - STEAUA 1 & RANGERS 0 - FC BARCELONA 0

The double picture tells the story, victorious SEVILLA FC & a tried
& nearly FC BARCELONA, in their respective CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Group games played tonight.

SEVILLA FC won STAEUA BUCAREST 2-1 to consolidate their place
on the Group H classification table. Sevilla started in a strong manner
with early goals from KANOUTE in the 4th min & the second in the
16th by
LUIS FABIANO.
The Rumanians then began to settle & looked better in the 2º half & they
were rewarded with their only goal for the night in the 62th min by
OVIDIU PETRE. Sevilla could have gone further but this win should

steady their course for the future. Good results for the Spaniards.

FC BARCELONA ran into a Scottish wall & drew 0 - 0 at Ibrox
Park against GLASGOW RANGERS.
Barça was the dominante side throughout the game with 66% of
ball posession, but faced a tough Scottish team that concentrated
their strategy in defending & stopping at all cost a Barça goal.
It paid off!

The end result, 1º point each & joint Group E leaders, which is not
bad at all for both sides. Rangers will now meet Barça at "Camp
Nou" in the next match & its sure to give a totally different result.

FORMULA 1. ALONSO 3rd & RAIKKONEN WORLD CHAMPION 2007 AT BRAZIL

An emotional Brazilian GP were the Formula 1 World Title went to
Finish driver KAMI RAIKKONEN, after winning the race ahead of
teammate Massi & McClaren contender & 2 time World Champions
Fernando Alonso. This result allowed the Ferrari driver to accumulate
point more over his overall rivals Hamilton & Alonso.

The before the race favourite Lewis Hamilton, sinned of over confidence

& arrogance, & fall into the Ferrari trap at the start, were he was blocked,
which caused a driving mistake from Hamilton which allowed Alonso to get
infront. Childish driving which highlighted the lack of experience at this level,

that took his car out of the circuit to lose places.

The nerves then played havoc & again he went out to fall below the top
10 places
& kiss the title goodbye.

(Hamilton slides out)

Ferrari controlled the race until the end , Raikkonen took the
lead
over Massa, & Alonso who was struggling to catch up watched
how the race finished in the same way.
Race Result:
1. Raikkonen; 2. Massa; 3. Alonso

Final World Champion Table:
1. Raikkon 109pts; 2. Hamilton 108pts; 3. Alonso 108pts; 4. Massa 94pts

However, the story is the pathetic exhibition of the McClaren team
& its Director Ron Dennis who made a bad & big mistake, that is,
not betting on his Spanish World Champion. His economic & political
strategy gave the responsibility to a driver ( who is an excellent driver
& will be a World Champion in the future) who had no experience
& suffered from visions of grandeur. Lewis Hamilton is now eating
humble pie & has only himself to blame for losing the World Championship
title.

Never has there been see such obvious favouritism from team & Federation,
taking the rules of the sport to dangerous grounds, introducing suspicions,
lieing & un sportsmanship. Ron Dennis has given Ferrari the construction
& the drivers World Championship due to his blind ambitions, along with
Ecclestone who´s whole startegy was to increase revenue in Great Britain

from TV incomes, & here Hamilton was vital. Perhaps Mr. Dennis should
contemplate leaving Formula 1 for the good of the sport & his full year
performance has been disgraceful.

Congratulations to Raikkonen good
season good racing!.
