leader of the Spanish League , SEVILLE FC, will be officially
prized as "THE BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD" for 2006.
Seville has finished ahead of all clubs in the IFFHS Organization
( International Football Federation of History & Statistics) annual
table, a statistical classification instrument approved by FIFA.
The prize will be given to the Club at the "World Football Gala" in
Salzburg to be celebrated tonight. A ceremony that gives out more
prizes to Best Coach & other yearly football titles.
Like all classifications, tables & prizes this will no doubt cause
a mix of opinions & controversy. Would you have given Seville
FC the prize?

What about Chelsea guys? No to mention Barcelona?
Sevilla was not the best team of 2006. Probably an accurate ranking puts them in 7th or 8th place at the highest and maybe even lower. What's intriguing about the IFFHS rankings is that they don't weigh the difference between UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League matches. If it takes place in European competition, it's worth a certain number of points. That is absurd, since playing AZ Alkmaar is not the same as playing Chelsea.
Sevilla did win the UEFA Cup and the UEFA SuperCup, but didn't even manage to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the 05/06 season. How can they be #1 in the world and still be in the UEFA Cup?
As I say , always controversial these prizes
