LA LIGA | SPANISH FOOTBALL ROUND 7 RESULTS

Spanish Football action this weekend with Round 7 scheduled Liga matches. The full scores are on the widget on the right-hand side of this blog. Following on the top three games of this Sunday will be reviewed: Atletico de Madrid, Real Madrid & FC Barcelona.

LA LIGA SPAIN SOCCER

Valencia CF hosted Atletico de Madrid & lost 0 - 2. Deserved victory by Atletico that could have won by a bigger scoreline had not Valencia goalkeeper Alves stopped TWO penalties. Alves stopped Griezmann & later Gabi from converting into goal extending his Liga record with the most penalties stopped.

The first goal came from Griezmann in the 63rd min, with the second late in the 92nd min from Gameiro

REAL MADRID LA LIGA

Real Madrid drew 1 - 1 with Eibar. Its their 5th straight drawn result & this is raising a few question at Real Madrid. James Rodriguez injured himself in the warm-up & his spot was taken by Kovacic, Modric was operated today on his knee & will be out for a month at least while Casemiro is still recovering from a facture. These injuries, especially the last two have unbalanced the team & Real Madrid is struggling to find the correct mix. Added, Karim Benzema continues to be out of form & the goals are not coming.

Eibar, need to be credited, good match by the visitors who were tactically disciplined & well coordinated defensively. Pedro Leon shinned for them in this game making a return to his ex-Club

Eibar opened the scoring with a Fran Rico 5th min goal, but Real Madrid managed to equalize after Cristiano Ronaldo found magnificently the head of Gareth Bale in the 16th min. Bale later hit the post with another header in the second half.

Real Madrid looked desperately for the winner in the latter part of the game but could not find the last touch to convert into goal.

LA LIGA SPAIN FOOTBALL

Celta de Vigo defeated FC Barcelona 4 - 3 in an exciting game. Barça was overtaken by Celta in the first half that included some elementary mistakes from the Barça players.

In the second half Barcelona attempted the comeback with Pique converting himself into a Centre Forward & even scoring twice. But a monumental mistake by Barça goalie Ter Stegan that allowed Pablo Hernandez to score the 4th goal for Celta & poured cold water over the Barça comeback attempt.

From the point of view of Celta, an excellent performance that rewards their aesthetic & ball control style of play. Barça fell victim to their many self incurred on-field mistakes for which they paid dearly.

  • Pique 57th min, 3 - 1
  • Neymar (penalty) 63rd min, 3 - 2
  • Pablo Hernandez 76th min, 4 - 2
  • Pique 86th min, 4 - 3
