FC BARCELONA | THE 10 SIGNALS OF COLLAPSE

Spanish Football journalist “Sergi Font” has written an article for Spanish Sports daily  “Marca” where he gives his 10 reasons for the FC Barcelona fall from grace, or "collapse". 

The 4-0 away hammering by Bayern Munich last Tuesday in the Champions League semi-final has opened locally a barrage of criticisms from many Football observers, opening debate externally & internally also at Barça. Its self-analysis & reflection time.

Five years of World Football domination by FC Barcelona was seriously questioned last Tuesday & the response suggested that is needed is that Barça urgently either learn quickly from the mistakes or continue on an apparent downward slide from the “World Football Olympus” to the level of the “Football mortals”.

These are the 10 cited signs of decadence.

1. Injuries have hampered Barcelona all season. Especially in the defensive zone.

2. Coach Vilanova seems to have little confidence with his bench. Did not bring on a change last Tuesday until minutes left of play.

3. Lack of response from the coaching staff to turn matches around when things don´t go according to plan.

4. Bad signing policy & the "winter transfer market" ignored.

5. No plan B when Messi is not well.

6. No actions taken at Barça after Guardiola warned last season on the

attitudes of some players.

7. The team hasn't rotated well or managed players efforts this season

8. Squad lacking in physical strength & height. 

9. Attitude of the team during games is not uniformed, loss of "team effort".


10. Goalkeepers Valdes's decision to announce his exit has altered the dressing room atmosphere

Just 10 thoughts from a Football observer that you may or may not be in accord. I believe the effort here is constructive & to learn from the signals. Lets not forget that within all the apparent gloom the Club will be proclaimed Spanish Football Champions ( Liga ) this season.
