|Phantom goal to Levante ?|
Levante deserved more, much more in their 0 - 0 draw against Madrid Club Getafe. The best player for Getafe was Moya their goalkeeper which says a lot about the game. Then at the end of the match an Iborra crack hit the bar & bounced down to give a "phantom goal". It could have been the winner for Levante had the referee allowed it. In the above image it seems that the whole ball crossed the line. Levante was not happy at all with the decision while Getafe sighed with certain relief.
Celta de Vigo went down fighting but losing with the final score 1 - 2 against Real Madrid. However Celta possibly played their best match of the season & certainly did not deserve to lose. Perhaps a draw would have been more appropriate & just but the individual skills of the Real Madrid players pulled their team through this difficult away match.
It was a match that had both goalkeepers as the main protagonists, with Real Madrid Diego Lopez saving his team from the Celta "onslaught" in the first 10 minutes & Celta Varas saving more than half a dozen clear chances from Real Madrid. Excellent match with both sides earning their pay tonight under difficult & wet conditions & with Celta putting their all as they are desperate to get themselves out of the relegation zone.
Real Madrid had to put in Xabi Alonso & Kaka in the mid second half to find ways to distribute the ball more effectively & this allowed for more opportunities. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first in the 61 st min, but as with all the game Celta was not daunted & replied with the equalizer in the 63rd min via Aspas. From here it was end to end stuff until Kaka was fouled in the goal square & won a penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the 72nd min for the second & winning goal for Real Madrid.
Celta then put Real against the ropes & nearly pulled off the equalizer had Madrid goalie Lopez & the cross bar not done their job or been in the way. In the end Real Madrid was calling for the final whistle.
Costly defeat for Atletico de Madrid in their stronghold with a final 0 - 1 score against a very competent Real Sociedad which enjoys Euro ladder positions The loss by Atletico allows City rival Real Madrid to take the 2º spot of the classification table with At.Madrid dropping to third.
It was a counter-attack that looked suspiciously off-side that allowed Real Sociedad player Xabi Prieto to slam home a 53rd min goal that was to end up being the winner. Atletico de Madrid sinned the whole game of not being able to finish of their countless opportunities & paid dearly for being inefficient upfront.
Frustrating loss but fantastic for Real Sociedad which is having a splendid season with real possibilities of a Euro berth next season if they continue with this line of play.
