SPANISH CUP ( COPA DEL REY ) Q /FINAL 1º LEG | REAL MADRID 2 - VALENCIA CF 0

The SPANISH CUP ( Copa del Rey ) got off again with the first game tonight of the 1º st leg of the Quater-Finals, tomorrow two more clashes & the fourth on Thursday. Here is the final result of tonight's match-up & the goal scorers.

REAL MADRID SPANISH CUP 2013

REAL MADRID CF hosted VALENCIA CF in an encounter that ended in a 2 - 0 victory for the home side. Casillas started in the Real Madrid goal & Marcelo came back from injury. The game was as expected between these two historical rivals with end to end stuff, hard fought in the midfield, that was settled by two events: a "deadly" Real Madrid counter-attack & an unfortunate own goal.

The first goal came in the 37th min when BENZEMA finished off a quick counter-attack, a reward for the close calls earlier from Modric & Ronaldo. Valencia did not however drop their heads & continued their game plan of attempting to take away at least an away goal. They had chances, clear chances that they did not convert in part from inaccuracy ( eg a clear Jonas chance) &  also Real keeper Casillas did his magic.

In the 73rd min when Valencia was at their best level a Di Maria cross into the small goal area found Valencia midfielder GUARDADO who knocked in an own goal to give Real Madrid its second goal. Bad luck & a moral breaker for Valencia which basically accepted that tonight things were not going to go their way.

Valencia will now psyche themselves up for the return leg next week & work towards attempting a turn around. Very difficult beforehand but not impossible at all. What can be said with certainty is that it will be a game not to be missed.
