Here is a quick summary of events, final results & scorers.
|Muniain for Bilbao|
ATHLETIC DE BILBAO defeated 1 - 2 SLOVEN BRATISLAVA away in their Group F Europa League clash. A deserved win overall with good play & always with the initiative that managed to control & keep away the home-side dangerous moments. Bilbao scored first via SUSAETA in the 13th min from a MUNIAIN play, who himself scored the second & the winner in the 40th min. Earlier however GUEDE managed an equalizer in the 34th min that meant little in the end for the home Club.
ATLETICO DE MADRID played CELTIC GLASGOW in the Group I match with the home team winning 2 - 0. Atletico played well & showed good signs of improvement, especially from their new signings (Diego, Turan & Falcao) , getting their play together with some quality moments. Two of those names stood out, with FALCAO scoring his first goal in Spanish Football & for Atletico in the 3rd min with a header, & DIEGO RIBAS scoring the second & the tranqility goal in the 68th min.
Atletico de Madrid has been shouting for seasons the need for a creative midfielder & DIEGO tonight appeared to stamp this authority, class & candidacy for the rest of the season: outstanding. Turk Turan also played well - he gave the "death pass" to Diego who scored - & can only get better with more matches.
However, before the second goal, the Scots looked dangerous on occasions as they defended in block & looked to find opportunities with counter-attacks. The Spaniards were being frustrated since their first goal by the strong defence & in their attempts to attack made mistakes to which Celtic pounced on. However the Atletico second goal put water on the Celtic fire & the Spanish Club was unlucky not to have scored more goals.
Good win, but better was the image that Atletico gave with their play.
