CRISTIANO RONALDO OR LIONEL MESSI | WHO IS CURRENTLY THE SPANISH LEAGUE TOP GOAL SCORER?

Who is currently the leading Spanish Football League - La Liga - leading Goal scorer?

You may think that it is strange that such a question be asked if the statistics are recorded & followed strictly, but no, there is "controversy, & so much that it could play a vital role at the end of the season to decide which player receives the prestigious "EL PICHICHI" Award.

At the moment it´s a two horse race between CRISTIANO RONALDO (Real Madrid) & LIONEL MESSI ( FC BARCELONA). A surf through the main Spanish Sports dailys gives us these CURRENT results:

DON BALON (Barcelona based Magazine)
1.Messi Barcelona 27
Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid 27
Villa Barcelona 17
Llorente Athletic 15
Rossi Villarreal 14
Pedro Barcelona 13

AS (Madrid based daily paper)
• Messi Barcelona 27
• Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid 27
• Villa Barcelona 17
• Llorente Athletic Club 15
• Rossi Villarreal 14
• Pedro Barcelona 13

Mundo Deportivo ( Barcelona based paper)
1. Cristiano R. (27)
2. Messi (27)
3. David Villa (17)
4. Llorente (16)
5. Rossi (14)
6. Pedro (13)

It looks like the leading Spanish Football press gives currently ( at this moment in the season after 27 Rounds of La Liga ) 27 goals each to Roanldo & Messi. A draw right? Well no.

Spanish Sports paper "Marca" gives this classification:

1.Cristiano Ronaldo 28
2.Messi 27
3.Villa 17
4.Llorente 15
5.Rossi 14

Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Messi? 28 GOALS ? Here the video of  the "controversial goal" in question - the match Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid - 18.09.2010:

Spanish Sports paper "Marca" whom traditionally hand over the "Pichichi Award" ( Spanish League Season Top Goal scorer) have counted the Cristiano Roanldo free-kick as a valid individual goal, while Sports papers Don Balon, As, Mundo Deportivo & most other Spanish media have awarded the goal to team-mate PEPE who took the deflection.

This apparent frivolous controversy could turn out to be a major Spanish Football issue at the end of the season if Ronaldo & Messi remain so close in their individual goal season tally & race. Stay tuned as this debate promises to get interesting & possibly "heated" in coming months.

Would you have given Ronaldo the goal that Marca claims is legitimately his against Real Sociedad? Or is it Pepe who scores?
