SPANISH FOOTBALL | 2010 - 2011 SPANISH LEAGUE - LA LIGA | ROUND 19 | SUNDAY NIGHT RESULTS

SPANISH FOOTBALL continued today with three programmed matches as part of Round 19 of the SPANISH LEAGUE - LA LIGA. Tough games, all difficult for the favourites with surprise included. Here are the match results & scorers.

Mathieu opens the can for Valencia CF

Suffered & very worked 2 - 0 victory for VALENCIA CF  against DEPORTIVO. The defensive wall by Depor frustrated & kept out Valencia most of the match until the extreme efforts & tiredness of Deportivo allowed MATHIEU to break the barrier. Then in the very end with energy levels at their limits Valencia PABLO HERNANDEZ scored in the 93rd min to secure the three points for his team. Very worked & important win for Valencia.

Ortiz with Ronaldo

Grand effort from ALMERIA to finish their game against REAL MADRID with a 1 - 1 draw. Big set-back for Real Madrid is their attempts to stay close to arch rivals FC Barcelona on the Spanish League classification table. This game may be remembered at the end of the season if the tussle between both mentioned teams & the Spanish Title comes down to just one or two points.

Almeria were disciplined, solid & saturated their midfield to starve Real Madrid off the ball. Real Madrid on the other hand were not sharp tonight & looked lethargic, with Kaká on from the start in the place of Benzema, & he too looked still in need of a few more games before getting into top form again. Real Madrid played without a Centre Forward & it looked all very odd.

The Almeria goal came in with a Piatti play that saw ULLOA pick up the bounced off ball to score in the 59th min. One could say an isolated piece of action,  but well worked that set in the alarms at Real Madrid. Coach Mourinho reacted taking off a defender & packing in the midfield with Granero who would later be the saviour along with Benzema. In fact both substitutes picked up a counter attcak in the 76th min to which Benzema laid the ball onto GRANERO who smashed the equalizer. Real Madrid had a chance to win in the very end via a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick but he hit the cross-bar, unlucky indeed for the Portuguese.

Iniesta against Malaga

With Real Madrid smashing into the Almeria wall, FC BARCELONA "smelled blood" & knew that a win against MALAGA would up open a valuable 4 point gap at the Top of LA LIGA Calssification table. Barça took their opportunity & won 4 - 1 Malaga in a great match full of action & goals.

INIESTA opened up proceedings with his 7th min goal followed by DAVID VILLA in the 17th min & PEDRO in the 35th min. Malaga reacted with their new players Baptista ( ex AC Roma) & Maresca (ex Sevilla FC ) ...plus other new signings... & attempted to lift their game & try to pull back the result. It began in the 67th min with a timid effort with a DUDA goal but Barça shut the door straight into the Malaga face when DAVID VILLA scored again & his teams 4th goal in the 73rd min.

Barça too good & more leader of the Spanish League.
