THE REAL MADRID Nº9 DILEMMA | TO WAIT OR NOT TO WAIT FOR FERNANDO LLORENTE

The longer than expected prognosticated comeback of forward Gonzalo Higuain who will virtually miss the rest of the season (4 months at 50-70%), has forced REAL MADRID Directives to back on their words & now admit that they are willing to sign a Nº9, but not any Nº9.

Club Director General Jorge Valdano commented to Spanish TV last night that they were looking for a player for the next 6 months & very economical. This has opened up a wide range of players that today Spanish Sports daily “Marca” puts up as possible names:

Spanish Soccer
Valdez, Luis Fabiano, Adebayor, Klose;
Lisandro, Mario Gómez, Gekas & Salía

However, Real Madrid does not just want a Nº9 whatever,  or a “band-aid” solution for 6 months, they wish a Top World Class player with future projection that will stay at the Club for years: here is precisely the problem.

A top class player at this stage of the season is virtually impossible to sign as most Clubs will refuse to let them go, plus the investment needed goes beyond the 30-40M€ mark. But there is one player that suits all the Real Madrid prerequisites & I have a feeling that a verbal agreement has been reached BUT for the end of the season: Athletic de Bilbao & Spanish International Nº9 FERNANDO LLORENTE.

There is a rumour that Athletic Club President Fernando Garcia Macua has asked Real Madrid not to make an offer for Llorente before the end of the season because Bilbao celebrates Presidential Club elections in March. A Llorente transfer NOW would guarantee the certain defeat of Macua, debilitate that current squad & cause a serious fan base backlash that everyone wishes to avoid. Thus Real Madrid has agreed they would negotiate & sign Llorente at the end of this season.

Everyone knows that Llorente is the man, the problem now is should they sign now someone else & risk a huge investment for a player that may turn out to be a complete failure & cause problems at the end of the season.

The solution? A difficult one, the only logical option is a 6 month loan but that incurres lot of risks & brings to light a poor in-house organization & planning job that calls for some head cutting later on.

The question: wait for Fernando Llorente or not to wait for Fernando Llorente

P.S. In the last weeks, Atletico de Madrid forward SERGIO AGUERO has been flying around. Nice option if Llorente becomes difficult.
